Subject: Questions about Siri
Hi all,

I have a  question regarding Siri.
How can I change  Siri's replies to my queries from text to voice responses?
Presently, whenever I ask a question to Siri, the reply comes in the
form of a text message which is read by VoiceOver.
So, how can I make Siri speak aloud her responses to my queries?

And, secondly, whenever I ask a question to Siri, it says 'you said
blah blah' and then it gives its response.
So, what should I do to ensure that Siri directly answers my questions
without repeating what I said?

Your help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Rahul

I don't think there's a way to make Siri not repeat what you say first. The
most annoying thing I think is that it has to speak the phone number of
contacts. Since my Siri some how got very loud compared to normal VO, it's
more of an issue than the lucky people that got a Siri that's below normal
VO volume.

I can undersatnd why you woldn't want everyone to hear the numbers, but
if Siri didn't repeat them you wouldn't know if you were calling the
right number or not. Have you tried turning down the volume while Siri
was to loud?

Steve

Hi,

Siri's volume is adjustable.  While siri is running, just turn down the volume.

That explains then how this probably happened with my old phone and its bad
volume controls and got restored from the Itunes backup on this one.
Resetting the settings to default would likely do it too, but that probably
clears all apps' settings, meaning some will forget the cookie that lets me
avoid security questions on each use with a partially inaccessible remember
device button.

I like Siri repeating what I say. This ensures it understood me correctly.

Subject: Re: Questions about Siri
Hi, I also find this to be annoying at times. So what I do is turn off
Voice Over by pressing Home 3 times. Then I use Siri like a sighted
person does, and it answers questions normally without repeating things.
If I need to get more details about the answer which are visible on
screen, I turn on Voice Over with Home pressed 3 times and then see what
it is. In other words, if I'm going to be interacting with Siri a lot, I
turn off Voice Over. It gets annoying to hear everything repeated back
to me, although I understand why it works that way. You see, when a
sighted person uses Siri, the same information is on the screen, and if
you use Voice over, it's doing its job by reading the screen. So, this
is normal and expected behavior.

Here's a good example. You can do the following with and without voice
over on and you will see the experience is better without Voice Over.

1. What's the current temperature.

2. Send text to my wife, hey, where's my dinner?

3. Where are the nearest pizza places?

You will find that 1 and 2 can be done easily without Voice Over
running. Yet, you will find that Voice Over should be on for 3.

I hope this helps.

This is about SIRI and dictation. I've looked at the command lists, but they do not address spelling words. Are there protocols for spelling words that you know SIRI will mangle and mutilate?

Hi, not easily. Try saying: "no caps on, no space on", then spell the
word, then say "no caps off, no space off".

If you look at the following articles, it may help.
