This all sounds pretty good, but a few things I am ondering about are this:
I dial a number or tell SIRI to call somebody and the line is busy. Why
can't I say after a minute or even 10 minutes: Redial" or "Redial my last
call"?
This doesn't work now and I have not heard any examples about this.
Also, I am very curious whether it is finally going to be possible to enter
just a business name in the company field, for example, United Airlines, and
then to say "Call United Airlines". I do of course imply here that I also
enter the correct phone number for uUnited Airlines, but currently you have
to also enter the company name as the last name (I guess you could do first
name, but I prefer to use last name for sort reasons) in order to make it
possible to voice dial with SIRI.
I'd also hope you can ask something like "Who called me last" and after SIRI
announces this to say "Call back the last person who called me" or, in the
context of the earlier question simply "Call that number" or "Call them".
And since I am in the complaining mood, if Apple gives SIRI the ability to
open any app why not include things like turning WiFi, Bluetooth or Airplane
Mode on and off by simply telling SIRI to do so and to give me an answer
when I say "What's the battery level" rather than asking me if I want to
search the web for "What's the battery level". Even my old HTC Windows 6.1
Smartphone with Microsoft Voice Command could do this. OK, I do admit that I
do not want my HTC back, but who cares about what's playing in the movie
theatre or who directed Toy Story yet I can't ask it the simplest things
about my phone.
I agree. I really do not care if SIRI knows or can look up trivia crap
instead of having real functional capabilities related to controling
the device itself. Yes thanks for what they have added though. Of
course it all depends on getting a response from server side
technology that is pushed as such a great idea. Siri should be able to
process at least some things on the device itself. That's something
else even windows voice commander could do.

Thanks this is great I see quite a number of good commands that are new to
the system. Possibility of future evolution? Does anyone else on the list
considering our group take note of the who is near me command? I assume
naturally that will only work at this time with folks who have iPhones, but
the future possibilities for us blind folks are quite interesting. No more
wondering around trying to find one another at a gathering.

You know I find the comments about Siri really interesting, but let me stir the pot here and ask how many really care about Siri? I have to admit that I rarely use Siri although I certainly appreciate its capabilities. I actually just started using the dictation feature a bit more and forget to use punctuation, so I have to remind myself. :) So, just curious how many either really do not care one way or the other or used it a lot initially and found themselves not using it so much after a while.

I don't use Siri that much. Like you, I find myself using the dictation
feature a little more than in the past. Regarding anything else, I seems
like more work than the results provided. In all fairness, perhaps I need
to put more time into learning what the correct way to ask Siri for
information.

I use SIRI all the time, there simply is no easier way to set an
appointment, a reminder, alarm or timer. Dictation for me works very well
most of the time and I guess it will only get better. I can't wait for the
business search and map/turn by turn related stuff to work here in Canada
which so far it has not. I also find the Wolfram Alpha capabilities very
useful, how often has somebody listened to an audio book or read an eBook
only to come across a word you aren't quite sure about or the name of a
historical person. The other day I read a book review and came across the
word "dystopian". Now maybe many of you know what it means, but even though
I have lived in Canada for half my 45-year long life and consider myself to
be completely bi-lingual I did not know this word. So I simply pushed the
Home Key on my 4S and asked SIRI "Define dystopian". SIRI took about 2
seconds to look it up and gave me a concise and satisfying definition. Can I
do the same on Google or Wikipedia? Yes, but the SIRI way is much easier.
The same goes for unit conversions or if I want to quickly know something
about a particular country such as it's size or population. I think many of
the people who don't use SIRI a lot haven't quite realized how much you can
ask and of course you can ask even more as of next week. As far as dictation
is concerned Scott mentioned he forgets the punctuation. When I first
started using dictation more I realized that just like learning how to be
good with Fleksy, getting good results with dictation requires some practice
and discipline because you can't just start putting down your thoughts as
you would with a keyboard where even a very fast typer has time to think how
to best say something and it's easy to backspace or edit what you have
written. With dictation you have to get it right the first time, you can't
put in long pauses and filler words we often use in conversation. I find I
have to often take a few seconds and organize what I want to say in my mind
before I start dictating.
I've been using Siri to set the timer whenever I put something in the oven. I also use the dictation to send text messages. I also use Siri to make phone calls or play music. For example, play all songs by The Rippingtons or play Magical.

I have to admit that I rarely use Siri although I certainly appreciate its capabilities. I happen to use Siri as I will do anything not to have to use the screen.
If it wasn't for the Bluetooth keyboard I wouldn't even have an iPhone! I
can find apps and stuff on the screen but other than that it's totally Siri,
keyboard or dictation for me. Hope no one flames me for that. I love the
iPhone and it meets my electronically challenged needs.

Hi,
When SIRI works, I use it mostly for setting appointments, which I have to
do quite a bit. Also for the times when I just want to say a few things in
an Email, or the occasional asking for information that I'm too lazy to type
into a search field, grin.
However, with the new added feature of being able to launch apps, I'll
probably use it more.
By-the-way, Jason, you may want to make sure your comments are at the top of
the message instead of at the end of all the other replies in a topic.

When I first got my phone I used to try and use Siri. But since she
never seems to know what I'm talking about I mostly gave her up. I can
type and find stuff faster on my own.

I use the dictation feature of siri a lot. Other than that, I don't use siri for much except voice dialing contacts out of my address book. And like Ricardo, I can dial a call that has only a company name in the company field and no first or last name. I would love to see voice inquiry integrated into the maps and gps, so you could simply ask Siri where am I and get info back like closest address, nearest intersection etc. But of course, since that probably doesn't matter much to sighted people, unless they live in my town, where a lot of the street signs are stolen by students at the start of each year, it probably won't happen. Mary Otten
motte...@gmail.com
I didn't realize you could use siri to set a timer. Will have to look in to that since I no longer have an working talking clock. Will it do a count up timer, e.g. announcing the time that passed every minute?
Hi Mary,
You can already ask SIRI "Where am I" and get a pretty darn close address.
I just asked that sitting at my desk and it gave an address only 4 numbers
off from our house address, but that is probably because my desk is on the
south side of the house, near the number she gave.
Now, it doesn't give nearby intersections, but this isn't bad.

I can set a timer, but the stop watch doesn't work.
She just says, I can't help you with the stop watch.
But, in iOS 6, she will start apps, so maybe then it will work.

Hmm, I will have to try the where am I again. I do have the sendero look around which will give intersection info, but having everything integrated into the maps app would be neat. I guess we don't know yet whether there will be turn by turn for pedestrian routes, do we? I don't recall seeing anything about that, but I could easily have missed it.
They have not said a word about pedestrian routes.
I'm thinking we'll be very lucky if they include that option. All their
examples were around driving.

You know I just want to ask Siri "where the hell am I?" Oh wait there is an app for that. :) Seriously it would be great if Siri could say "hey you fool your at the corner of 3rd and Main." "There is a nice bar nearby and you should stop and have a couple since you seem a little aggravated." Now that would be a really good use for Siri. Oh maybe I could say "Siri, where's my wife?" "why she's three isles over, so you still have a chance to make a run for it!" :)
Yep, I'm thinking Siri could really mature into something quite useful. :)
