I'm a bit confused by the process of adding the "read later" bookmarklet in Instapaper. First of all, when the instructions mention first pressing X to clear the UrL text while editing the bookmark then specify pasting, I'm not sure that the original URL is not pasted again. Apparently, a designated bookmarklet is supposed to show, but there is only a URL, I am not sure how to add a page the the bookmarklet after that, since, when I go to the Instapaper entry in Bookmarks, it just shows the instructions page.
I know this sounds confusing, but if anyone has done this successfully, please let me know how it was done.
Thanks,
Teresa

When installing the bookmarklet, you are first taken to a page in safari. On this page, your are instructed to bookmark the current page. After saving this bookmark, you should tap ok done on the safari page.
The next instruction page tells you to go to your bookmarks and edit the bookmark you just created titled instapaper read later. Double tap on the edit field for the bookmark link, the link starts like this
http://www.instapaper.com You can tap the clear text button, which is the x button mentioned in the instructions.
You should now be in the edit field. Using the roter, navigate to edit, then flick down to paste. Double tap paste and you should have text in the text field that starts like this,
javascript:function iprl5(){var
If you have this, tap done at the bottom right of the keyboard and return to the instruction page in safari. From the safari page, tap your bookmarks button and tap the instapaper bookmark. You should be returned to the instructions page and then a popup should appear telling you the process was successful.
I hope this was helpful, but please reply if I wasn't clear.

The instructions that Thomas gave work for creating a "Read Later" Bookmarklet on the iPhone, and I've done this, but an alternate way that you might find easier is to create the bookmark on your computer and just have it sync to your iOS device (assuming that you sync your Safari bookmarks). On the Instapaper extras web page, you would navigate to the bookmarklet and bring up the context menu to copy the link. Then, you'd create a bookmark for the current page, and paste the link, which is javascript code, into the address field of the bookmark in the Safari "Show all Bookmarks" page, again using the context menu. It is most convenient to create the bookmark in the "Bookmarks Bar" where you can access the first 9 bookmarks with the shortcuts Command-1, Command-2, etc. The process works the same way on Windows computer, and Brett posted instructions for doing this in Windows XP for Internet Explorer and JAWS, that can be found in the archives.
This information used to be up on the AppleVis web site comments for Instapaper, but since the app that was reviewed was the free version of Instapaper that was discontinued after about two years, they removed the review and all the comments, even though all the information was useful and also applied to the paid version of the app. I don't think anyone even noticed the free version was gone until they discussed adding a feature where users could "recommend" apps, and I said I wanted to recommend Instapaper, but currently, the link went to the free version which had recently been discontinued. So they deleted the review and all comments, including the different ways to create the "Read Later" bookmark.

I completely forgot about syncing your bookmarks from the computer. That is definitely a much simpler method which I think the developer Marco Arment suggests somewhere. Thanks for that Ester.
