Many of our users have asked for more data about products -- content,
preparation instructions, etc.
We are delighted to announce several changes in Digit-Eyes:
a) After a successful scan, Digit-Eyes will now display the extended
information about the product. Depending on what the manufacturer
discloses, this may include ingredients, preparation instructions and
more. Furthermore, you still have the ability to search Google with a
single click or to access price comparison engines with one click.
b) The product can now be purchased as separate elements. If you
only want to read code 3-of-9 inventory labels, the cost is just
$1.99. If you want to create and record audio labels (washable or
printed), the cost is $9.99. If you want just the UPC / EAN feature,
that is $9.99 as well.
c) The price of the entire product suite is reduced to $19.99 for all
features.
If you already own the product, the upgrade to include extended
information is free.
We've also added the ability to use the "shake" gesture to start and
stop recording and added an option to fast forward through a
recording.
Is this useful? Not all of the 26 million items in the database have
extended information, but many do and the database grows daily!
Using the more information feature to scan our favorite object in
the lab pool (a can of spam), we were able to find that the Spam is
supposed to be cut into six slices. Each slice has 180 calories, 140
of which are from fat. The instructions from the folks at Hormel,
however, seem a little incomplete. Their preparation instructions
recommend frying the Spam, but dont say at what point in the process
you should contact your cardiologist. At any rate, it is nice that
you can now find all this out with a single click after scanning with
Digit-Eyes.
Hey There Nancy and DigitEyes folks, Thanks for paying attention to user feedback and for creating these pricing options. Really nicely done! Many thanks! To the rest, apologies for sending a post that doesn't further the discussion, but sometimes it's nice to publicly acknowledge folks when they are really taking seriously customer feedback. Lisa

These seem like good changes. I would suggest adding rewind along with fast forward, as if you're listening to preparation instructions, you may well want to be able to back up and hear something again.

The preparation instructions from the manufacturer are written and
then voiced with VoiceOver, so you can currently move backwards or
forwards by just dragging your finger up and down the screen to guide
VoiceOver.

We have roughly a million codes for the UK and some very enthusiastic
users in that part of the world.
You should start by using the website www.digit-eyes.com Make a
free account, log in and use the tutorials, printing the three
instruction sheets and walking through it step by step:

Yes, it is designed to be accessible -- most of our testers, however,
used Jaws and some of the features are designed to be particularly
simple for that product (like jumping from title to title). If you
have any problems, however, please do let us know so we can fix them!

While scanning, the app makes a ticking sound so you know it is active When it finds a code, it beeps and (on the iPhone, not the iPad), vibrates.

What you are describing isn't really how we intended the product to
work. After you scan, and you see a product, there is a scan button
that you can use to scan again. So if you are not finding another
scan button, it argues that you are perhaps on a page of the app that
is different from the results page.
If you are in the "more information" section, that is actually in a
browser and you'll need to click the "Results" back arrow to return to
where you see the scan button.
So, the first question is "are you seeing scan results" at all? If
not, the phone / pad is still in scan mode and we can help you with
scanning?
And the second one is "do you find the scan button on the results
page" ? If this is a problem, we may need you to send a screenshot
to supp...@digit-eyes.com You can take the screen shot by holding
down the home key at the bottom of the display and simultaneously
clicking the "on" button at the top of the unit. You'll then need to
go to the display of photos and select the last one and email it to
us.
And the third is "are you on the more information page?" If so, click
the "results" back arrow to return to results and scan again?

Hi Nancy, I guess I didn't give you enough information. If I scan, find the bar code and go through that process than it works fine. But if I start the scan and then double tap to stop and then try to scan again that is when it doesn't work. I don't get the ticks or anything.

Hi Roger,
What you are describing isn't really how we intended the product to work. After you scan, and you see a product, there is a scan button that you can use to scan again. So if you are not finding another scan button, it argues that you are perhaps on a page of the app that is different from the results page.
If you are in the "more information" section, that is actually in a browser and you'll need to click the "Results" back arrow to return to where you see the scan button.
So, the first question is "are you seeing scan results" at all? If not, the phone / pad is still in scan mode and we can help you with scanning?
And the second one is "do you find the scan button on the results page" ? If this is a problem, we may need you to send a screenshot to supp...@digit-eyes.com You can take the screen shot by holding down the home key at the bottom of the display and simultaneously clicking the "on" button at the top of the unit. Hi Roger, I just tried that and did not have a problem, so if you can
give a little more information, maybe we can zone in on it.
1. you are scanning and decide to abort the scan
2. you tap twice
3. at that point, the scan process aborts and you should see the
Digit-Eyes main screen that has the scan button and the scanning tips
button.
4. When you double tap the scan button, the scanning starts again.
A couple of questions so I can be sure I'm coming as close as possible
to duplicating your experience:
1. what kind of device are you using? IPhone 3Gs, 4, 4S, iPad III ?
2. have you updated Digit-Eyes to the most recent release?

Hi, I am using iphone 4s. If I abort the scan, and then try to scan again it tells me it is scanning, but there are no ticks, and it doesn't find a bar code. I have tried seeing if it were scanning and just not making the ticks but when it doesn't make the ticks even if it says it is scanning it doesn't find codes. Thanks RF

Ok, when you abort the scan, do you see the main page with the scan
button and the 'scanning tips' button?

This is a discussion that we shoudl probably do offlist because we are
probably boring people.
Could you please do the folliwng?
a. scan a good scan
b. scan a scan and cancel it
c. Digit-eyes should now be in the scan screen and in the problem
state. Click the option at the bottom of the page that says 'Send
Picture"? Digit-Eyes will vibrate and open an email with the picture
in it. Just click "send" and it will come to support.
I'm hoping that the picture and the nature of the first scan, we'll be
able to tell what is going on.
We will reply to you via email and spare our friends here the back-and-
forth....

I just wanted to confirm for you and the rest of the list that we were able to find the problem you reported. The free update that was published Friday evening by Apple will address this, so if you accept this from the Apple store, all should be well.
Thanks for your diligence in reporting this and your patience with the solution.
