Subject: Annotation file size
Hi, I'm pretty new to ViPER (been using it for the last couple weeks
to annotate video for an academic research project) and I'm having a
problem with my annotation files. Is there a maximum file size that
ViPER can handle for annotation files? I've had a couple instances
when I've saved my work on annotating a video and tried to reload the
data, and ViPER could not load the file. Didn't freeze or crash the
program, it just didn't do anything. Didn't even load the
corresponding video file. I thought maybe the data was corrupt and so
I just reverted back to an older version of my .xgtf file. But when I
got to the same point in my video I had the same problem - - I could
not reopen the file after I had saved my new work. However, if I start
a new annotation file and pick up where I left off in the video, I'm
able to finish my annotations with no problem. So basically I split my
annotations into two files rather than one large one.
It seems like it might be a file size problem - - I've had no problem
opening smaller files in ViPER, but once they get around 5+ MB it's no
longer able to open them. I searched through the ViPER documentation
(and spent some time on Google) and haven't been able to find any
mention of this problem. I've tried it on two computers (both running
XP, for what it's worth) and had the same problem, and also sent it to
a coworker who could not open the larger files.
Has anyone else encountered a problem with ViPER handling large .xgtf
files, or does anyone have any other insight into my problem?

Thanks,

Ada

This is likely a problem with memory usage and the xml parsing. Two
ideas:

1) increase your heap size, if you have more physical memory available
http://hausheer.osola.com/docs/5

2) Annotate only one object per metadata file while you are editing
them, and use gtf2xml
to combine the files together for processing.
