Hi, I just tried vinux and like what I see. Especially the classic
menus being there.
One problem I found was with disk utility. When I tried to read
smart data it just exited. Has anyone ele tried this? One other thing.
Is talking clock still in Vinux?
Mike.

On my Vinux VM, I just ran $ sudo apt-cache search talking-clock, and I
found it, so I think that yeah, it's still there.

NOT MEANING TO BE RUDE, BUT YOU COULD FIND OUT ABOUT TALKING CLOCK OR
ANY OTHER PACKAGE IN THE REPOS WITH EITHER
apt-cache search package name
apt-cache talking**
FOR example returns quite a few programs including daisey player and
talking clock.
or asuming you know how to spell a package you want and know you want it
just use apt-get install packagename
and as you have inferred by now the answer is yes.

As for disk utiliity, it crashed when I tried the option you mentioned.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Hi Storm,
do you still use Vinux on any pen drives?

I am not sure yet how to build packages from git repositories.

What are the current dependencies for talking clock?

Thanks
Rob

Just a little note, (and question), are you using sudo for any reason?
On a normal system you'll get same results running things like apt-cache search, dpkg -l, etc. with out the extra perms. This might be different if there are multiple accounts and another user has installed something, but I doubt it.
Not that there's any problem with using sudo in most cases, but the extra typing and hey, anytime perms are not elevated is theoretically safer.
Regards,

Hi,
I don't currently have a computer that will run it. I have tried booting a few times and had no luck. My poor computer is going on 13 years old though lol.
Dependancies are bash and sox, with optional dependancies being espeak, flite, festival, speech-dispatcher, picotts, cepstral, and curl.
Basically, just apt-get source, bump the version number in the change log, put in the latest from git, and push it. That is, if I remember right lol.
Thanks
Storm

Hi Storm,
as discussed on IRC which is where most Vinux development takes place
Talking-clock has now been upgraded and I'll do talking-clock-gui soon.

Thanks
Rob
