How much hard drive space would the mirror take? And do you know what
kind of traffic we could expect?

Thanks,

Hi there,

I need someone with knowledge of this for me. I may have the
University of MN as a possible mirror.--

Hi Scott, I don't have exact figures but the current set of four isos are about  5-6GB in total. The traffic varies - it peaks after a new release - we get lots of visitors from distrowatch and softpedia, but then it tails off - according to distrowatch figures we probably get about 10-20 visitors a week, but I don't know how many people download - as we use multiple mirors - so you could expect a steady trickle of traffic with the occasional burst of activity.

Oh yes that would be the CS Department at UMN. you do know why they
call it Gopher right? If not it's because we are the Gopher State.

Hello,
I'm a new subscriber to this list, and just downloaded Vinux for the
second time.
It would be great if UMN would mirror, since I am here in MN and noticed
there were no close mirrors from which to download Vinux.

Hi Sarah, anyone is welcome to mirror, all they have to do is send me the direct URL and I will add it to the list of mirrors on the website.

That sounds good. FYI: we often reach capacity the day of Ubuntu
releases but otherwise have a decent uptime. Do you have an rsync://
URL or how do you want to sync?

Thanks,

Does anyone on here have a rsync url that UMN could get hold of?--

The easiest way from our point of you is for you to use wget to take the image straight from the fastest mirror on our downloads page (probably the USA east coast A or west coast A) straight to your server then send us the URL once you have checked the md5sum - I will then post the links on the website for which ever versions you decide to mirror...

Do you mean of the iso or the burnt cd? The iso image is very easy to check on Linux - you just open a terminal, navigate to the direcotory the iso is in and then type: md5sum nameofile.iso - if you are using Vinux I have included a GUI called GtkHash which allows to check the md5sums of files from a file browser. You then compare this number to the one on the website and if it isn't exactly the same, the image is corrupt. To check the md5sum of a burnt CD is more complicated - and on Windows requires you to install an md5sum checker.
