I just cloned the subversion directory from Makerbot into github to
preserve it. I am a bit concerned, since the wiki from makerbot is no
longer maintained, and I wonder what might happen if they abandon the
subversion server.

With the discussion about Thingiverse, I would welcome it, if people
(and me thinks we already have many excellent designers on this list)
would put STL files and links of their best modifications into the
repository.

Have you looked at this:  http://svn.makerbot.com/users/

It was where they were posting ideas and other things they were working on. All CC stuff I think they moved files elsewhere once they were doing the Thingomatic.
