I have a single Cupcake (#2950), Gen3 electronics, 3G5D Ugly Cable Hack, MK6 extruder @ 3mm, 0.5mm nozzle. Just installed Jetty's Firmware for it and am really impressed with the acceleration. Shortly I will be upgrading the XY with a Lowrider. I have the kit, I've just never taken the time to install it.  :P  I'll also be upgrading the extruder with  http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7113 soon.

Nothing, since I donated my gen3 mobo to a fablab that needed one..

Cupcake #915 is still assembled, though (sans the motherboard). Lowrider, makergear stepper extruder, PMSD scored at Botacon, claimer (and I'm agog to see it still there) of http://wiki.makerbot.com/hall-of-fame-highest-resolution.

Cupcake #2509 has a Mk7 with my drive mechanism mod http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:15718 (BTW, for those looking to build one of those, I'll have hardware kits to give out tomorrow at the Deezmaker shop grand opening in Pasadena and next week at Maker Faire NY), PSMD, 3G5D cable hack, Bluetooth for serial control, lowrider, a Z-wobble arrestor that I designed with the intention of making it easy to install, but I never published because although it works, it turned out to be a pain in the ass, cellulose acetate window covers and lots of other little tweaks, hacks and mods. I use RobG's accelerated firmware and RepG fork, with Slic3r making my gcode. I also have the first Reprap Wallace, currently on display at the Deezmaker shop, and I have the design for Wallace 2 nearly finished in my head, waiting for a chance to commit it to 1s and 0s and then to plastic.

I have a Cupcake # with Ramps 1.2 board, yet another extruder http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7113, HBP and wobble arrestors.
I printed the Z-Rider once but never got around to install it. Somehow I also like the looks of the Cupcake. I think it is a design classic and I wouldn't be surprised if it eventually ends up in an exhibition at the MOMA, hence I refrain from making mods to the chassis. But if the linear bearing low rider would be released, I'd go for it.

I ordered an extruder from http://www.qu-bd.com/ whilst the had their kickstarter campaign and I am finally making the switch to 1.75 PLA.
As a software stack I use Alibre Design, Printrun and slic3r.

I run a Cupcake with Lowrider on roller bearings and a stepper extruder, 3mm, 3G5D board as well.  Will be at the 3D printer Village next weekend,
Whosa Whatsis, maybe you can hook me up with your hardware kit for my son's bot?

Two heavily updated Cupcakes -- Gen4 electronics, 3G5D, MK6 plus, lowrider, extruder 7113 upgrade, 3mm, .4mm nozzle printing happily at .26mm and playing with .15mm layer thickness.  Haven't made the jump to accelerated yet.

The lowrider and extruder upgrade are WELL worth the effort!

I have Thing-o-Matic #3904. It's currently equipped with:

  1. A MK6+ extruder, setup for 3mm, using Jag's Yet Another Extruder Filament Drive
  2. The HPB with the aluminum heat spreader
  3. My Plywood Air Filter
  4. Jetty Accelerated Firmware
  5. And the classic MakerBot Filament Spool Holder
I actually have a Filament Spindle MK1, but I haven't used it since Makerbot started selling plastic on spools. I might upgrade that with jdow's 1kg plastic spool adapter for the Filament Spindle MK1 Box.

I'm planning to do more upgrades though. I have an MBE extruder (the MK7/8 derivative that was on Kickstarter) on order. I'm going to convert my setup to using 1.75mm filament, I bought some linear bearings, and I plan to do these:

  1. I really like the idea of the Quick Change Build Platform for TOM. I'd like to use it to try the bed fixes on the Truly Automatic Thing-O-Matic so I could try my ABP again.
  2. I'm going to put some of the bearings on the Z Axis linear bearing spacer for Thing-O-Matic. I don't think I need this, I just figured I was ordering the bearings so why not.
  3. The Y axis will get some bearings with the Y Axis Bearing Holder/Spacer.
  4. The X axis will get some too. At the moment the plan is to use the Linear Bearing X Axis Carriage for ToM, but I'm working to design a version of the Quick Change Build Platform to use bearings.
  5. I've already printed some extruder upgrades. For printing PLA, I figured I'd try the MK7 fan holder/ print cooler.
  6. Also I'm addicted to having a ball bearing drive on my extruder, so I've already printed jag's mk7 ball bearing extruder drive.
  7. I like the idea of a Z height switch, so I might do either TOM Z-min Endstop or Z Minimum Height Probe. I'm not sure about those.
  8. I also keep meaning to add grounding wires to the HBP and extruder for static safety.
I'm hoping the linear bearings will help me with acceleration. I know things aren't terribly slippery right now and I didn't want to just reposition the existing bearings again, I wanted a more permanent solution.

Thanks for the mobo offers, folks!

I gave up mine because the Cupcake had been sitting on a shelf since the Ultimaker chased it off my desk.. I may scavange more parts and make a rostock or something, someday, but I think it's printed it's last print. And that's ok. It was fun for a while and I learned a lot with it. :)

Using a stock ToM with the Mk7, 10 linear bearings, whosawhatsis's
Minimalistic Mk7 replacement, and Jetty Firmware. I'm both surprised
by how well it prints but always trying to improve it. I print only
with ABS. Most of my prints are sliced at 0.2mm and printed at 90mm/
s.

Looking forward to seeing how Jetty/Dan/and others make use of the
kickstarter dual extruder.

Cupcake #1950! Parcan hot end. Z extension. Z wobble arresters + a couple of 5 mm Teflon rods inside right and back - no XY wobble at all. Heated print board all shimmed up to level. Tighteners on the x and y pulley.
In the middle of building a stepper extruder.

Best resolution is .2 mm layer.

Cupcake #17, USing the 3G5D board and PSMD from Giseburt. Also with a Makergear Stepper Extruder. Need to get around to upgrading the Z stage and making a lowrider.

Although part of me doesn't want to get rid of the back panel to do the Z-Rider mod. Since that is where they hand wrote the serial # of the bot.

Hi

I'm running a Cupcake with 3G5D, Pololu on all axes.  3mm Mk5 upgraded with stepper.  Soon to be replaced with the open source extruder I got from kickstarter.  Lowrider and Z-rider by Aaron - almost ready to install the roller bearing upgrade but, not until I can reliably print the rest.

Currently having an issue though - Looking like a weird Motherboard issue.  I think I'm gonna need a new board...but that's a story for another thread.

Great idea for a group! At my University I have been running cupcakes 1262, upgraded to mk5 extruder, and 2663, running a brut struder and sanguinololu controller. 1262 is pretty much dead while 2663 needs a new extruder. Am thinking of buying a qu-bd extruder to upgrade but not sure it's worth it. (The students predominately use a prusa that we built last semester.) They do look nice on the bookshelf in my office...

Did you ever extend the size of your build platform?

With the Z-rider, you can go to 126mm wide in x axis. (Add the lowrider and and you can go to 110mm in Y)

I love that we forked this "vintage makerbot" from the other list.  I feel as though I won't drag the discussion down with my Cupcake questions.  This is my first newbie post on either lists.

Here's my configuration.

Cupcake #2995
- Gen 3 w/3g5d
- MK6+ @3mm
- HBP 2.0

Going to install
- Low Rider
- ACME Z-rods
- Pololou controllers (once I find good instructions on how to replace everything)
- Mechanical end-stops (do I need them?)

I'm just trying to get it printing consistently with the current configuration before I add any more enhancements.  Things got a little off after I installed the 3g5d board but I'm getting closer.  I tend to get lost sometimes with all configurations in ReplicatorG.  I just got back from 2 days at the Maker Faire and have been inspired to restart my efforts to get everything working just right.  I saw a couple of Cupcakes there that were purring along nicely.

Here is my immediate question that has been bothering me.  My HBP starts out at room temperature reading of 65515.0 C.  Once I activate it to get better prints I have to set the target heat to 45-50C.  Anything more and everything goes mushy and I get uneven calibration cubes.  Any areas where I should focus on first?

Thanks.  I hope you all can help me get this thing printing the way it should.

Anyone in the Brooklyn area?
