  Hi, &lt;br&gt; The battery will likely be inserted the right way as otherwise it wouldn&#39;t &lt;br&gt; soft start. &lt;br&gt; I have had a similar issue with my Colour Classic a while ago and solved it &lt;br&gt; by replacing all the SMD radial capacitors. &lt;br&gt; Check for leakage on the logic board next to the small round capacitors : if &lt;br&gt; you see any, then they will be the most likely cause.

  While attempting to find some info on the Mega-Mate automatic floppy loader for apple ][, I found there was an ISA card from MicroSolutions called MatchMaker. &lt;br&gt; It had a Mac external floppy port.   format and initialize are two separate things. Initialize creates a &lt;br&gt; new partition map, drivers, etc. &lt;br&gt; Older hard drive tools like APS powertools I have has those two steps &lt;br&gt; separated. &lt;br&gt; I have been told that a low level format is a good idea about every &lt;br&gt; five years. Because, new bad blocks do happen, &lt;br&gt; This is supposedly to apply to SCSI drives.

  Keep in mind, we&#39;re talking about a Mac here, not a PC, an older one &lt;br&gt; at that. &lt;br&gt; The &amp;quot;clean install&amp;quot; thing really doesn&#39;t apply here as it does in the &lt;br&gt; PC world since you don&#39;t have all the junk files, misdirected registry &lt;br&gt; entries, etc (sometimes gigs of them over time). Just removing stuff &lt;br&gt; you don&#39;t need should be enough.

  I would guess that it might be possible that the hard drive simply &lt;br&gt; failed. However that you get a similar result with the floppy suggests &lt;br&gt; that that is unlikely. It might be possible to fry the board with the &lt;br&gt; battery, but I don&#39;t know. Just make sure you&#39;ve got it in right and &lt;br&gt; test again. Double check all the cabling and try a few other floppies

  At 20:24 +0100 1/7/10, rabbi...@mac.com had a boot problem: &lt;br&gt; Be absolutely sure the polarity of the battery is correct. &lt;br&gt; There may be another reset button on the mother board somewhere. Have a look and poke it when you&#39;re sure the battery is installed correctly. &lt;br&gt; A voltmeter on the installed battery might be a good idea. Installed backwards, it could discharge pretty quickly.

  Hello All! &lt;br&gt; since some days I own a Color Classic. Because the system did come with no battery installed, I bought a new 3.6V battery and placed it on the mobo. &lt;br&gt; Now I have the following problem: The Mac does not boot anymore.... :-( &lt;br&gt; After power on the HD spins up and the startup sound occurs. The grey screen appears and for a moment the &amp;quot;Happy Mac&amp;quot; shows up.

  Jeff, &lt;br&gt; If you are talking about the &amp;quot;plain&amp;quot; HD20, I am fairly certain that it is &lt;br&gt; NOT SCSI. Apple HD20SC was the first SCSI external drive.
