Hi Ben,

Initially, both serval and the Mesh Potato ran a layer 3 mesh protocol (batman) which made them effectively interoperable. However, the current Mesh Potato firmware now uses a layer 2 mesh protocol (batman-adv) which cannot be run on an android phone, to my knowledge.   Further, serval have now developed their own overlay mesh protocol for which we have no current equivalent version to run on a Mesh Potato.  Although, in principle, there is no reason why it could not be compiled to run on an MP.  Perhaps someone from the serval team could comment further on that?

Can you tell us a little be more about what you're doing?   Are you trying to extend a serval mesh with Mesh Potatoes?

Regards... Steve

Hi Ben

IIRC, the problem I encountered with the original Serval was the inability for Android to set the BSSID in Ad-hoc mode.

For inter phone mesh use, I found it easier to just connect to the Various AP's and use a Android Sip client to register to MP/VT asterisk and thus make calls. In testing this method worked reasonably well if one is stationary. It also makes a good party trick when calls are made with the sim card completely removed.

Hello,

In that case you need to tunnel Serval traffic over VT nodes. That could be done by running servald on the MPs so that they participate in the serval mesh as well. But as Jeremy says, our routing isn't up to voice calls in that configuration. Rhizome traffic should work ok, withi the limitations of the MP's storage.

Paul.
