Those signed up for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs "Foreign Press Week" would have received a personal message from Mr Tung Pham a short while ago to advise that we will now be accommodated at the HUONG SEN HOTEL, instead of the Rex Hotel as originally indicated.

I hope no one is unduly disappointed or put off by this last-minute decision but the Huong Sen -- located half-way down old Tu Do Street, now Dong Khoi St towards the Saigon River -- should work just as well.  It's also located a bit further away from the huge construction site just below the Rex for the city's new subway system.  It's a good 3-star hotel and also has its own rooftop bar -- with probably cheaper drinks.   (Also a smaller property so e'one will know right away who we are.)   KD and I know the place from our previous trips.

So -- a new Reunion HQs in Saigon.

Cheers!

Recall Woody Dickerman stayed there during the war -- and David Butler made it the setting for his unpublished "Murder on the Rue Catinat." Was noteworthy for having a swimming pool -- wonder if that''s still there.
Don
-- Very sorry neither Woody nor David are still with us.

Actually, I think Huong Sen will work quite well -- smaller and less pretentious than the dolled-up old Rex BOQ -- and the pool's still there.   It's the sorta' place we should be able to take over!   And we'll definitely raise a glass or two to Woody, David and other old colleagues.

Here's the hotel's website:  http://www.vietnamtourism.com/huongsen/.
