Where is Jimmy Pringle?

Folks,

I’ve been contacted by the owner of the Bangkok building where Jim Pringle has a condo. They haven’t seen him for some time and are trying to find out whether anyone has had recent contact.

This came after they read my Substack piece about my being sacked from Newsweek, with Jim not mentioned but triggering the query as he was also pushed out, and as staff, not a stringer. And quite famously too.

We last heard here from the once quite active James here on New Year's Day 2023. If anyone has heard from Jim in the past year or two — Bangkok, Phnom Penh, UK, anywhere — please let me know. The building owner is simply trying to establish his status and whether he left Thailand intentionally.

No speculation — just looking for any confirmed contact.

Sorry Carl. I also have not heard from him for a long time. I only have an outdated email but will ask around. Has he returned to his birthplace, Scotland? Dominic, I assume you have not seen him at the FCCT?  Very best Denis

Thilbaud Garcia owns the building and reached out after seeing my Substack.  

Jim would be into his 80's by now.  Not in best of health last seen and very hunched over.  (This was Phnom Penh in 2010.)  It'd be sad if he's gone and nobody's heard.  

He was another one of the legendary characters and women always fell for his bug-eye glasses appearance.  (We were so jealous!)

I am sad to say that Jimmy has advanced dementia. He is living in a very comfortable care home in the Paris suburbs beautifully looked after by Milly. I went to Paris to see them in April for a couple of days. Physically he is well but he can no longer communicate and has difficulty recognising people. That said, he smiles and seems content. I will pass the message to Milly.

Thank you for that, Jon Swain.  And just to clarify Thilbaud Garcia has a condo in the same building as Jim and Milly's in Bangkok.  He doesn't own the building but was reaching out to fellow owners to improve the place.

Perhaps best, Jon, I will DM you Thilbaud's email, and best to pass this along to Milly and they can sort out what she wants to do with the property.  Given Jim's condition, she may just wish to dispose.  But up to them, of course, to have this conversation.  

But sad news really.  But not the first, I'm sure, of those our same age(s).
