I furled the waxed silk thread to make the eye.
I normally use cream silk but here using red & white thread to show the construction
The all cream eyes look fine to frame but I wouldn't fish them

Not bad at all Iain...........those came out pretty dang nice. 
Please do me a favor........go to my site, and join.......you'll have to join to be able to post.....then post that on the forum(s) page. Start a new "discussion" and post it there. Title it, Fureled Silk Eyes or whatever you like. There's plenty of members there, (got bout 140 now) that might like to learn about it........i'd really appreciate it..............whenever you have

Iain, is there any specific reason you used waxed (silk) thread over non-waxed?

yes, 2 reasons
1. nearly 40 years ago I was told always wax silk thread with Veniards wax, to protect the silk and improve the durability of the flies, always have always will..
2. The furled silk is stiffer and holds the open shape of the eye.

that's what i figured....."stiffness".....i've been told that before by guys who make furled leaders. makes perfect sense.......i just wanted to hear your reasons and keep the thread goin' for those who are following to learn. there are hundreds (or so i'm told) of lurkers out there who follow along to learn "Stuff" 
yet who never post. i wish they would.....but that's up to them. Thankx, you've always been a good one. btw, of all the different waxes i have, and use.....depending, Veniards is one of my favorties.
