Hi all,
I wish you'all a nice and great Christmas Season.
It is a great time for us flytyer..
Found in a store yesterday the perfect copper tinsel for the Jersey Herd
pattern. A dark copper.
the original material for the body is hard to obtain. It is the closure
(cap) of a milk bottle, which is used in the shire Jersey. I have a
picture of the fly, and the color looks very close.

Have a good time

Can you send me a photo, never heard of that fly. I am originally from Jersey.

Hi Tony, Allan,
Merry Christmas to you.
Allan is right, the Jersey Herd is from the shire Jersey in England. And
the link is excellent, the picture I have in my book is pretty close to
the one in the link.
I got some hooks from Anna for Christmas, and a new camera from my wife.
Should i ty a Jersey Herd and post it...?
Rene

Being that this is CHRISTMAS I will not rebuttal Allan. I am corrected. it is NOO JOISY where I is from.
That is one good looking fly. I guess I should tie some of them for Crooked Creek. I think for the White, an Orange body would also be good.
I want to wish all of the list a very happy and Safe CHRISTMAS Season.

Allan -

Tried the link but I got a message that said it wasn't available.  Did anyone else try it and get through?

Joe,

Yes, several people have.  Try it again from this:

For some reason the last part of the link you used wasn't connected to the rest of the link.

Funny things these electrons.

MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Just opened it again from the link below, it popped right up.
No waiting this time for the photo.

Hallo,
I'm not really satisfied, but here is my 2nd attempt for this stillwater
fly, Some remarks:

Hook is Partridge Grey Shadow, SH3, Sz. 8. Niflor finish. The photo
isn't giving its grey shade.
Black thread,
Some lead, and form a cigar like shape with the tying thread
Back and tail is peacock herl
Body the discussed tinsel. Before I wrap the tinsel I give the underbody
a slight coat with nail polish, and wrap the tinsel into the 'wet'
underbody.
Collar is orange hackle,
I snip a 'V' on top of the collar, before I forward 3 herls from the
back to the front in order to form the head.
Before I wrap the head, I twist the peacock herl with the tying thread
to reinforce it

Rene - The Jersey Herd looks like a fish killer to me. I am going to try it
in white and orange as Tony suggested. One question, could it be used in
our tail waters as fished as a streamer. Dail Graham

Dial,
Would you believe they have the water shut down today. Ths coldest day so far this winter and after months of high water, they shut down. Get a Jersey Herd tied and come down and try it. We may not see low water again till next spring.
