The bead chain flies are "sorta" weedless already because if you tie in the bead chain on top  of the hook, like most everybody does, that will cause the fly to ride barb side up. You can also use 30# mono to make weed guards when you tie the flies. Using a Martin 8` 5-6 , in the process of "restoring" a Shakespeare 8 1/2` bamboo rod with a Shakespeare Automatic Reel given to me by my uncle many, many years ago. I "target" bluegills and just in the last few years started tying my own "bugs" mostly foam bodies........ I was told subsurface produces more strikes so have added chain bead eyes to many of my ties. First time out I landed a gill with a red eyed / black foam bodied bug , just as exciting as landing a marlin ! :-) Really looking forward to spring time this year , and still experimenting with a "weedless" bug for the lily pads........
