Hi Tony;
I've only had that happen with jigs, what type of fish did you brain with upright hooks? With bass, I've always had better hookset with upright hooks.

I hate flies that ride point up.
Killeds several fish with them sticking them in the brain.

Pat: Glad you posted. Hope to hear more from you in the future. The bead chain flies are "sorta" weedless already because if you tie in the bead chain on top  of the hook, like most everybody does, that will cause the fly to ride barb side up. You can also use 30# mono to make weed guards when you tie the flies. Chuck

Greetings from NENC, Been "lurking" for a while now trying to learn all I can , fairly new to fly fishing and really not very experienced at it. Using a Martin 8` 5-6 , in the process of "restoring" a Shakespeare 8 1/2` bamboo rod with a Shakespeare Automatic Reel given to me by my uncle many, many years ago. I "target" bluegills and just in the last few years started tying my own "bugs" mostly foam bodies........ I was told subsurface produces more strikes so have added chain bead eyes to many of my ties. First time out I landed a gill with a red eyed / black foam bodied bug , just as exciting as landing a marlin ! :-) Really looking forward to spring time this year , and still experimenting with a "weedless" bug for the lily pads........ Check out some of my bugs and your input / suggestions welcome, don`t worry about hurting my feelings Pat http://s1021.photobucket.com/home/ncbugman/index
