1. A chance conversation.....made me realise that there is a need to spread the news about actions many of us do not give a thought to.

2. All of us need to have Income Tax PAN numbers, spouses included (please be disabused of the idea that acquiring a PAN will make you liable to file an IT return). If the spouse does not have a PAN card, life can be pretty difficult in terms of getting the family pension flowing smoothly and also, in other issues (property etc).

MOST IMPORTANT

3. If you have ever changed your residence/address anytime after you have got a PAN, please do understand that you need to apply for incorporation of the new address in the records, by filling in a "Changes in PAN Data" form. Else, all IT advices and refunds/demands would go to one's previously recorded address, when PAN was issued. (Specially those retired in the past few years need to look into this)

4. Kindly go to a TIN facilitation centre , fill up a change request form, submit with payment , photographs (colour), and necessary supporting proofs of ID and address. You will get a NEW PAN card with the same old PAN number (and some recently introduced changes to PAN cards) by speed post within 10 days.

6. If you are comfortable with computers and on-line work, you can also apply & pay on line from home, and submit documents by speed post.
