Subject: SVN 1.4 support returning later this week
Hi Everyone,

We made a mistake when we dropped SVN 1.4 support in beta 5 and are
scrambling to correct it.

Here's what we're working on right now:

• A new Versions beta that supports both SVN 1.4 and 1.5.

We're pretty far along with the under-the-hood changes that are
required for this. This release will ship as soon as possible, before
the end of this week. Using SVN 1.4 or 1.5 will become a preference,
switching between them will require a relaunch of Versions.

• Better documentation in-app and on the website.

There will be a new page up on the website soon after the new beta to
explain the drawbacks and advantages of each SVN release, as well as
some background and troubleshooting information.

• Catching up with the support inbox.

We're doing our best to help out people who got burned by the update
as quickly as we can.

---
Our apologies to everyone who had to go through frustrating
experiences due to our abrupt move to SVN 1.5. That's the exact
opposite of what we hope to achieve with Versions and we're sorry for
dropping the ball on this one.

Many thanks to everyone who let us know over here and by email that we
dropped SVN 1.4 support too soon.

SVN 1.4 will come back alongside 1.5 support and shall remain in
Versions for the foreseeable future. It will not be removed again in a
replacement of an expiring release.

We'll keep you posted on this new release.

On behalf of the entire team,
- Dirk

The switch to 1.5 hasn't affected me at all, but I just wanted to say
that it's great to see that you guys are so responsive and
responsible.  That's great news for the future of Versions!

Hi Everyone,

We just shipped Beta-6, SVN 1.4 is back, alongside 1.5.1.

It's on www.versionsapp.com and in Beta-5 if you let it check for
updates.

For those not interested in technical details: you can stop reading
here ;)

---
SVN 1.4.6 is now the default used version for people who haven't used
Beta-5, SVN 1.5.1 (without SASL for now, if you're interested) is the
default for people who *did* run Beta-5.

Which Subversion library to use is a Preference now and requires a
relaunch after it is set.

We're also hosting a new version of the Subversion 1.5.1 command-line
tools installer over here:
http://versionsapp.com/redirect/svn15latest

This is the latest 1.5.1 installer, built by Jeremy (also hosted at
open.collab.net) which has the SASL issues fixed. The one thing we
changed from the OpenCollab version is that our installer adds the
path to the new SVN binaries at the beginning of your PATH environment
variable.

This basically means, version 1.4.4 won't still be the default binary
that's executed in the Terminal on Leopard anymore, after you complete
the 1.5.1 installation. You can install this package over any previous
1.5 installation and all should be fine.
---

On behalf of the entire Versions team:
Thanks for your patience and enjoy Beta-6!

- Dirk
