Subject: Need to create a report of open defects and the stories they are associated with

I have been asked to help assist a co-worker with the following request
(see below). Any thoughts or assistance?

The request:

"Here's a report that would be really, really valuable. Having a report
that listed out all the user stories (ie. backlog items) with a list of
their associated defects underneath. This report would be used by the
release management team during regression testing. It would help them to
know which features may not make it into a release and which were OK. It
would also help Product Owners determine which features to Accept and move
towards a release and which still needed work.
"

We found "Issues" to be helpful pre-release. If the issues associated with a Story would prevent it from going live to a production environment, the story would not be included when we branch for a Release. Sometimes we find issues that would not impact our end users or would not be severe enough for a customer to complain. These issues can be converted to Defects and placed in our backlog for future prioritization while the story would be included in our release branch. Post-release our defects are related to Feature Groups as opposed to Stories that have already been released.

As for reporting – haven't got that far yet, but I'm sure the Custom Analytics will provide the flexibility to report on issues related to a Story.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Seth for your alternative ideas. I see that on a story you can
identify "Broken By Defects" relationships to a story, but I can not find a
way with Custom Analytics to report out on this relationship. If anyone
knows how, then I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Cecil;

YOu should be able to pull that data into a report using the Custom Reports
in Analytics.

Cheers,

~katia
