Subject: Assigning Tasks from Template to Existing Story
Hi,

is there some smart way of assigning tasks from a story template to an
existing story? E.g. I want to assign common standard tasks to a
story, but not when creating it, but rather at the time the story is
selected into an iteration backlog. I'm currently using "Plan Story" -

> "Copy Tasks and Tests" and copy the tasks from the template to the

story, which doesn't feel like the most efficient way one can imagine
for this...

Thanks, Christoph

Actually, the appropriate time to plan the story _is_ when it's brought into the iteration backlog. Prior to that, it should be groomed as a story and sliced more thinly rather than broken into tasks.

There are 2 uses of Templates

- Generating Stories/Backlog items (which includes the tasks/tests)
- Copying tasks/tests during planning from the "Plan Story/Backlog
Item" option

There really is no harm in having the tasks there ahead of time...you
can remove the ones you dont' need and add the unique ones during
planning.

If that still doesn't sit well with you then make 2 templates:  1 to
generate stories from and 1 to copy tasks from
