Can someone ID this comma? It doesn't fit all the descriptions for Eastern Comma but that's the closest I can come.
I believe these are all the same individual.

Hi Elinor,

I'm away from field guides (and I have a blind spot for remembering Polygonia field marks) but these are interesting. When and where were they taken? The ventral shots look OK for Eastern Comma. They vary dorsally by seasonal flight.

But the dorsal shot does not look like Eastern Comma. Gray Comma (P. progne) or even Hoary Comma (P. gracilis!) are possibilities. The blank look to the dorsal hindwings are good for those two (if my memory serves) -- only two dark spots on each hind wing. Eastern Commas and Green Commas tend to have three there (although this can vary, I suspect). Someone check this for me -- and correct me if I'm wrong.  And none of these looks OK for Green Comma (P. faunus).

Darn, I wish I could remember this. I'm having a Senior Lepidopterist Moment.

I'm swamped with other matters, but if I get a chance I'll spend more time on this tonight.

Best,
Bryan

Hi Bryan,

Taken on Lost Nation Rd in Albany, Orleans Co.  March 20. 2012

The dorsal pattern has me puzzled. Glassberg shows 4 spots on hindwing for Eastern Comma with the lower two faint. Could they just be really faint in this individual?

I took a quick look in the new Quebec guide and Elinor's specimen matches well with satyrus which has the subterminal greenish spots on the forewing underside and the subterminal faun colored crescent (line) on the underside of the hindwing -
