No, that is not a true statement. A wine can be vegan, and still contain
added sulfites. Please read the back of the label to determine if a wine
contains sulfites as it is required by law to be on the label. Happy

No. Most organic wines don't have added sulfites, but it is a naturally
occurring process. Not an animal product anyway.

I was told by an employee at a very large wine store that all wines have sulfites. They may not have been added and some labels say that "there are no measurable sulfites in the wine".

I have 2 bottles of 'suitable for vegans' wine from the Co-op. both say they contain sulphites.

Don't know what they are so can't help I'm afraid...

There are some good reds from Sainsbury as well - a few of their own label wines are clearly marked Vegan.

No, don't do that, there are loads of fantastic vegan friendly wines out there. Try the Co-op own brands - if they are vegan they will be labelled - the fair trade ones are good. Or there is a company called Vinceremos who I order all my wine from - all their wines are vegetarian and most are vegan and clearly identifiable from their website. [link]

Vegan red wines for me so far have been disastrous. I wouldn't recommend
'Our Daily Red' - tastes like a cheap cooking wine... Supposidly the egg
whites used are trace, maybe it is worth taking a chance on non-vegan
wines.

Thank you, Shaynie, for the clarification of the "clarification issue" on Kosher wines for Vegans. Rather than my initial missive stating Kosher wines are vegetarian, I should have said that Kosher wines are typically vegegarian.

Kosher winemakers today typically use bentonite (clay) for fining rather than deal with kashrut certification issues of whether exclusively kosher ground fish/animals were used by vinters' suppliers of isinglass or gelatin. Although egg whites may be used in clarification of Kosher wine, (OK for lacto-ovo vegetarians but unfit for vegans), the likelihood is that today's Kosher wine producers clarify with bentonite, making it fit for vegans also.

Yesterday I sent a detailed explanation to this group about kosher NOT being automatically equated with either vegetarian or vegan, and now today again there's someone in this group writing that kosher wines are automatically vegan wines. See below, my resend of yesterday's explanation about kashrut as it relates to vegetarianism and veganism, with special emphasis for Katharine about her "egg issue".
