Speaking as someone who is knowledgeable about kashrut (i.e., keeping kosher) and who is a vegan, "kosher" does NOT mean vegetarian, nor is a vegetarian wine suitable for Katharine if she is trying to avoid eggs. Egg shells are often used for the fining process in wine-making (as is insinglass, a product derived from the bladders of slaughtered fish). Egg shells are acceptable to people who keep kosher and acceptable to ovo-vegetarians. If you are trying to avoid wine that has been contaminated with eggs, you MUST get a VEGAN wine, not simply "kosher" or "vegetarian". Furthermore, products labelled "kosher" may contain meat/dairy/eggs/fish, although they will not contain a combination of meat and dairy within the same product. Products labelled with "kosher" and the letter "D" contain dairy. Products labelled with "kosher" and the word "parve" or "pareve" will not contain meat or dairy, but may contain eggs and/or fish.
