DWG Support
|
| |
I am currently programming office management software for a construction company. Throughout, the need for an open source command- line DWG conversion tool is overwhelming. I would like to first inquire about the status of getting DWG support written into VectorSection, including the amount of funds that would... more »

From PDF to *anything* ?
|
| |
Hi, although I'm untrained in the black arts of GIS, I have this
irresistible urge to convert my interior building maps, currently in
vectored PDF, into something like OGR, in order to georeference them,
in order to cram them into Mapnik, in order to spit out map layers, in
order to stuff them in the iPhone as statically available maps, with... more »

Google Summer of Code
|
| |
Hi all, If you're a student interested in Open Source (or know some students), now is the time to act to get involved in Google's wonderful Summer of Code program. [link] Each year, Google offers students the opportunity to spend their summer vacation coding rather than flipping burgers. You propose a project,... more »

Open Vector Standard formats
|
| |
Hi all, Given the amount of name clash with the "vx" prefixes, I've decided to go with OV (as in "Open Vector"), which means that the three existing hubs will become .ovd, .ovp, and .ovt. This page has some general documentation and links to the documentation for the specific standards. At the moment, only .ovt (triangles) is... more »

Fun with triangles
|
| |
Hi all, I've just finished a bit of work on the new "vxt" format, namely: stl2vxt and viewvxt. The latter is an opengl+wx interface which is still somewhat rough, but does implement zoom and trackball rotation (the lighting in opengl still confuses me at this point.) I'm thinking that vxt will probably stay an "only triangles" hub, which... more »

dwg support
|
| |
I noticed about a month ago OpenDWG started charging for membership. I can't recall what the roadmap is to support dwg files. I know we had previously relied on OpenDWG doing the reverse engineering of the (older) dwg formats and publishing the documentation, and that seems in question now. So what option(s) to pursue?... more »

Updating the svn repository
|
| |
Hi all, I've been shuffling some things around in the svn repository. Some of the old and stale data has gotten the ax (the history is always there in svn), but the good news is that it starts to resemble a real project tree and the Build.PL in the toplevel will at least install the perl code at the moment. For the python code, I think there is some sort of... more »

Welcome, .dwg/.dxf support
|
| |
Hello world, The inaugural posting to the VectorSection mailing list! Exciting times ahead. I'm partnering with LinuxFund to add support for the .dwg format and to implement .dxf read/write connectors. I think this will push VectorSection over the threshold of usefulness and build momentum toward it becoming the universal vector graphics converter it hopes to... more »
