I have a suggestion for a dataset from the City of Vancouver (are they
still on the list? :) which doesn't seem to be available, or pondering
if anyone knows if it is available somewhere (google isn't helping).

Parking zones, as in mapping out where the meter, multi-hour,
commercial, etc zone are in the city. And the specific case that
caused me to look, where the tour bus parking zones are (I need
somewhere to park one during a lecture at Harbour Centre next week :)

Otherwise, love all the datasets, it looks great! Cheers.

I had a look and it does not appear that the parking zones are part of
any of the data. You can use this link to provide feedback and sugest
data you'd like to see:

We don't have the parking zones data or tour bus parking zones data in
the Catalogue. However, parking meter info (rates and hour limits) as
well as motorcycle parking data are available. Upcoming parking data
sets will be for disability parking and taxi zones maps. You may find
private parking lot info from management companies like Impark
(example from http://vanguide.cloudapp.net/). The city's parking
regulations info can be obtained from this page:
http://vancouver.ca/engsvcs/parking/enf/parksmart/index.htm.

Hope this helps.

Just a warning for anyone considering using it - based on the legal
disclaimer, the impark data is not open data.

Just following up on this thread from last year, I see there is disability parking data sets now, but I'm wondering if there is any thought on providing general on street parking data.  Even just for commercial areas with meters.  I'm playing around with some ideas for my first mobile app (and am open to suggestions of something cool and simple that might need building), but street parking data could be very useful for issue such as "can I leave a car2go anywhere in that neighbourhood?"

As in, is there resident only or general street parking in an area, is it all meters, etc.  As a lifetime resident I have a general idea whenever heading to various parks of the city :)  But others might not... and yes I know having the data doesn't guarantee there actually being parking availability...

Anyhow, I just wanted to plant that seed again as another useful data set.

Thanks!

The City for Open Data so far has published these data sets related to parking:

- Parking meter

- Disability parking

- Motorcycle parking

- Electric vehicle charging stations

New data sets will be available soon:

- residential parking areas/zones   https://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://data.vancouver.ca/download/kml/residential_parking_areas.kmz

- car share parking

- main parks pay parking. (such as http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/stanley-park-parking.aspx )

The upcoming data set "residential parking areas/zones" hopefully is what you are looking for?

Thank you, that's fantastic.  I am curious, what's the difference between "Resident parking permit required" and "Parking in this area reserved for residents only"?

And is there any plan to create a marking meters and parking restrictions data sets? (ie. time of day/week restriction)

Thanks!

Please refer to this page for the difference: http://vancouver.ca/streets-transportation/permit-fees-and-zones.aspx

I am not aware of the parking restrictions data sets (e.g. restricted time of free street parking) in a digital format available.

Thanks

Meng Li
