Hi,

I am pleased to announce we have launched v2 of our beta Open Data
site at http://data.vancouver.ca

Highlights:

- There is now significantly more data available, approximately 100
layers of data in all (plus several packages of data).
- The data is now available in more formats. Almost all of the GIS
data is available in three formats (DWG, SHP, KML), while some is
available in CSV and XLS.
- Much of the data can be displayed in Google Maps or Bing Map with a
single mouse click.
- The data is now more current. Routines have been set up so most of
the data is extracted for the Open Data website on a weekly basis
(noting that some of it never or rarely changes).
- The site is now easier to use and data can be downloaded with fewer
clicks.
- The City's RSS and GeoRSS feeds are now easier to find.
- In support of the ICIS (the Integrated Cadastral Information
Society) as requested in Council's Open3 motion, two data packages
have been created specifically for ICIS to meet their specifications.
This will make it much easier for them to accept and further
distribute our data.
- a new survey that includes questions about applications.

Feedback is appreciated! Please contact us directly at
open...@vancouver.ca or through this group.

Um, am I being dense?  It doesn't look that different to me; I don't see lots of new datasets, I couldn't find anything to make a map, etc.  Am I missing something?

I put a screenshot of what I see at:

Yikes. Something has gone wrong, The site has reverted back to the original one. I will see if we can get it fixed tonight, but it might be tomorrow morning.

Looks like the data hasn't propogated yet, I saw it on my phone over 3g but not via a browser on my computer.

The problem has now been resolved.  You'll know you have the new site if the image on the home page is a blue globe rather than the previous green image.

Sorry for the short inconvenience.  hopefully the new site will be worth the extra couple of hours wait.

I see the new site now and the new functionality. The Google / Bing
map integration is really great for a non-gis guy like myself to get
easier access to the data.

I'm also very happy to hear about the behind-the-scenes infrastructure
to keep the data up-to-date. I think this is an excellent example of
building something quick (last fall) and then following it up with
something more robust and broader. Please send my thanks to the team
that made this happen.

Cheers,
Luke

Excellent work. Congratulations to City IT. Like Luke I especially like the
quick and easy Google Maps links and the fact that there is a process in place
for routine updates.

Nicely done.
