Hey VanChangeCampers!
I've felt somewhat wonderful all weekend -- for a number of reasons - high
among them this amazing news that broke on Friday:
http://eaves.ca/2009/05/14/vancouver-enters-the-age-of-the-open-city/
Andrea Reimer has posted a motion to open the city's data, foster open
standards, and raise the level of open source solutions. It's incredibly
inspiring -- and kind of crazy for expressing so much of what we've been
after:
"digital innovation can enhance citizen communications, support the brand of
the city as creative and innovative, improve service delivery, support
citizens to self-organize and solve their own problems, and create a
stronger sense of civic engagement, community, and pride"
VanChangeCampers David Eaves and Jason Mogus, and I imagine others, have
been working behind the scenes to make this happen. Congratulations to all
involved!
While an amazing motion, it looks like it needs to pass for the magic to
start to happen.
To support the motion, You can show up @ City Council this Tuesday @ 2pm at the
Council Chamber on the third floor of City Hall, 453 West 12th Avenue.
