Where is the cheapest place to get a car painted and how much does it cost?

If you're just going to sell the car and don't care what it comes out like
(within reason) nor how long it'll last, consider a place like Macco. Do your
own prep work (cleaning, sanding, trim removal, masking as best you can, etc)
and you'll have a hope in hell it'll come out half way normal.

I've seen some NASTY work from those guys, as well as others.

But, as with a lot of things... you get what you pay for.

How on earth do you expect them to offer a complete paint job for $249 or
whatever, when the materials alone for a good job far exceed that. I've
painted about a dozen cars over the last 6 years and know the time and
expenses involved in doing a good job.

actually, Maaco's buying power allows them to paint a car for $249 and make
money, not a lot, but some. Remember to use automotive degreaser, and follow
the instructions on the can if u decide to prep you car yourself. if not,
you'll have trouble that will be too expensive to fix!!!

Prepping the car yourself is not a good idea if you are getting a company to
paint it, it will void their entire warranty.

A (house) painter buddy of mine
used a gallon of car paint enamel
and a ROLLER to paint his work
van. Actually turned out pretty good!
Total cost was around $40 and took
him about 3 hours (full size van).

Good times! :)
