VaMoose 25 XC Winter Race

Date: Sunday, February 8, 2009

Registration: 10am   Start time: 11am
Location: Registration at the Willow Community Center in Willow, start/finish on the lake.

Cost: $20 "race" division / $10 "touring" division. (Race division receives times; touring division does not.)

Contacts: Race Info  Volunteers

Divisions: Racing, touring (no time in touring division, but please stay on the course for safety reasons)

Part of Willow Winter Carnival 2009 schedule . Click there for more information on other activities to enjoy.

Each "racer" must complete the entire course, and times will be issued from a single start time (no waves as in 2008). Each participant in the "touring" division can complete whatever amount of the course they want, and no time will be kept, BUT they must let us know when they finish for safety purposes (so we don't search for you). Race results will include times for the "racers" and a list of those who registered for the "touring" division or "racers" that did not complete the entire course. VMBaH cup points will only be awarded to the first 10 racers, with 10 points for first place, 9 for second, ..., 1 for 10th place. No points will be awarded for participants in touring division or those not completing the course.

Safety: Must wear bike helmet. Riders last year were in the 3.4-5 hr range, but times can vary considerably based on snow conditions and potential reroutes to avoid unsafe areas. You might consider looking under race gear on this site: www.susitna100.com   50k is only a little longer than 25mi, so considerations should be similar.

This 25 mile race is in conjunction with the Willow Winter Carnival and will be a lollipop route on groomed trails from Willow out the West Gateway Trail around the Willow Swamp Loop and back via the West Gateway. This will be a great warm-up for the Su 50 and 100 (mid February, President’s day weekend) and Alaska UltraSport  (Sunday before Iditarod) races. Check out the attached map, there's a huge trail system out there if anyone is looking for a good place to ride and train. Most of the trails are groomed on a weekly basis.

Hope to see you on Sunday Feb 8 at 10am!!
