custom validations with structs

Working on converting an old Fusebox site to FW/1 and trying to implement some simple validation.

Found an old post here:

which indicates custom validations don't work with structs (only objects) and provides a few workarounds...  remoteURL?

Before I run off and try the remoteURL or to hack up something ugly I was wondering if this was still the case.
