The primary responsibility of the Facility Coding
Liaison is to assist Patient Financial Services with the
review of medical records, assign ICD-9 and CPT codes to
Inpatient or Outpatient records as needed, meet
productivity requirements and meet all legal (federal
and state) coding requirements.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Analyze and evaluate medical records and assign
appropriate ICD-9 and CPT diagnostic and/or procedure
codes in accordance with coding guidelines.
2. Reviews APC and CCI edits and add modifiers or delete
charges as needed
3. Consult with hospital staff when necessary to secure
sufficient information to clarify data for proper coding
and resolve discrepancies in the documentation and
information contained in the medical record
4. Works all daily facility reports as assigned to
assure accurate and timely billing of accounts.
5. Assist all Patient Financial Services staff in
relation to coding issues and/or questions that may
arise.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
The following are the requirements for the Facility
Coding Liaison position:
1. CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certification is required. All are
accredited by the American Health Information Management
Association.
2. Minimum two years coding experience in an acute care
facility.
3. An A.S. degree in Health Information Management from
an accredited two-year program or a B.S/B.A. degree in
Health Information Management from an accredited
four-year program is preferred
4. Prior acute care billing experience working with APC
and CCI edits is preferred.
