Hi! I have met a few folks here at the UX book club, and have been quietly following along the group discussions for a while.

Today I have a question: is anyone working with online website prototyping software that you would recommend?  I need something that I can use to share prototypes with testers over the web since we will be in different cities. I am aware of Axure, but wonder what else is out there?  I do know most people just use PDFs or mock up in HTML, but I am looking for something faster for me to set up with more interactivity than a PDF.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Cheers,
Connie

Hi Veronica: I hadn't seen it before, but it does sound interesting. I will have a look. Thank you.

Hi Connie,

Have you heard of fivesecondtest http://fivesecondtest.com/? It's not a prototyping tool, but it allows you to conduct tests with users by uploading an image of your interface. They currently support 2 type of tests: memory (ask users to recall what they saw in 5 secs), and click (ask users to click on what appeals to them in 5 secs).

Best,
Veronica

Jen - I hadn't come across those in my travels. Thank you for the links!

A little more background on this work: I'm in a professional association with a recently redesigned website that isn't quite working for us. I'm in a small ad hoc group trying to correct it. We've put together wireframes for how we think it should work, and are now taking it out to test with members of the site's target audiences. The design is already established, so we don't really want to build our proposed changes out in HTML.

What I learn from this project I am hoping to apply to a client project, a full redesign of another association website.

Cheers,
Connie

Free is always good. ;-)  Will have a look at Mockingbird especially.

I should mention I was also looking at Balsamiq, but its version for online groups is just in private beta and they have enough beta testers. It should be released in the next few weeks they said. Anyone using Balsamiq?

Thank you,
Connie

At Tucows we've used Protoshare's paid service for some major UX work we're doing where we wanted to show a lot of the interaction between pages in a prototype.  More recently we tried Mockingbird which is very similar to Protoshare without a lot of the (for us needless) bells and whistles.  Mockingbird is free right now too. :)
