Hi Book Lovers,
Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Bedford Academy on June 20 for a spirited, fun, engaging, and enlightening discussion of Erving Goffman's The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life! If you weren't there you missed one of the best discussions since we started UX Book Club Toronto, but you can always join us for more great conversations with the next book.
OUR NEXT BOOK
Our next selection is Designing for People (256 pages) by legendary designer Henry Dreyfuss. It's a light enough read for a summer book but it still has enough depth to make it more than worthwhile, giving us a glimpse into the mind of a designer who helped shape the 20th century and what we do on a daily basis.
"From the first answering machine ("the electronic brain") and the Hoover vacuum cleaner to the SS Independence and the Bell telephone, the creations of Henry S. Dreyfuss have shaped the cultural landscape of the 20th century. Written in a robust, fresh style, this book offers an inviting mix of professional advice, case studies, and design history along with historical black-and-white photos and the author's whimsical drawings. In addition, the author's uncompromising commitment to public service, ethics, and design responsibility makes this masterful guide a timely read for today's designers."
WHEN
We will be meeting on Wednesday, August 22 and we'll send out an event sign-up link in early August.
We hope you had a relaxing Canada Day long weekend and look forward to seeing you next month.
Have a great summer and happy reading!
