We'll discuss next steps following our successful Creating a Culture
of Mentorship event with our IxDA friends; some of us are back from
the inaugural Web Strategy Summit in Calgary, and we'll be talk about
the impact of the global economic crisis on Design following Gong
Szeto's "DESIGN AS DERIVATIVE: Weapons of Mass Disruption" talk at the
Art Gallery of Ontario last week.

Meet your colleagues & make new friends in a relaxed, social setting.
Newcomers are always welcome so bring a friend.

Please RSVP at Upcoming so we can get an idea of how much space to
reserve.

See you there!

UX Irregulars are a rag-tag, fugitive fleet of User eXperience
designers, researchers and strategists who design mostly Web
interactions, but also software, and sometimes crazy things like ski
hills.

We typically meet on the second Tuesday each month.

Johnathan I'm not sure of what aspect of eComm you are talking about. However, Andrew Chak has an excellent and humorous book on the buyer's life-cycle and how to impact your user's decision-making thought process by designing and providing persuasive steps in order to allow your users to surf through the checkout process while enjoying the experience.
The book is called Submit Now.

Look through Jared Spool's UIE and Boxes and Arrows. Those are great resources. The book "Designing for Interaction" is also good.

"Best practices" are overrated in my opinion. Sometimes you just have to explore other great ecommerce experiences to see what's out there, trust you're intuition on what's best usability/interaction, test it and iterate, work with a multi-disciplinary group of designers who are experienced and you will create something great.

Hi Johnathan:

You asked for articles or pieces on User Experience.  Although not quite in this category, I would recommend Luke Wroblewski's book on web form design...fillling in the blanks. I would also investigate HFI's recent white papers on PET Design, which explores the cognitive aspects of motivating users on the web.

Hope that helps
