Description
 
Whether you work on or off camera, it takes a diverse team to deliver programming that is distinctive, innovative and entertaining in English, French and eight Aboriginal languages. You probably grew up watching the national public broadcaster. Here’s your chance to be part of our team.
 
Working with other members of the User Interface Design team, you will be assigned to assist in the design and production of graphic interfaces and assets for CBC’s digital platforms, ensuring they are in line with the brand, the needs of the end-user, and the business strategy and objectives of our internal partners.
 
The ideal candidate is a design thinker and craftsperson, and is able to thoughtfully contribute to team discussions, design critiques and brainstorming. This person is passionate about expressing interactions in visual form through clear and creative interfaces.
 
The responsibilities of this position will vary depending on the project, but the candidate should be comfortable participating in all parts of the user-centered design process and with creating deliverables at varying levels of fidelity. Duties will generally be performed under the guidance of one or more senior designers, adhering to deadlines as per project requirements.
 
Responsibilities:
• Work under the direction of Sr. Designers to complete mockups, iconography and style guides as well as graphic production.
• Assist team members in documenting design requirements and user interface specifications including user profiles, scenarios, and wireframes.
• Confidently estimate resource requirements and scheduling for all projects.
• Produce layouts and interface design elements that clearly reflect the project’s goals and the concepts of the user interface design team.
• Work closely with the UI Design manager, information architects, designers, project management and development teams to successfully deliver projects within their specified timeline.
• Provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Manage change control throughout design project execution.
• Focus on user-centered experience design to improve the quality of user interactions and overall experience with CBC’s digital products and services.
• Work within an existing design system, extending that system when necessary.

 
Qualifications
 
As the successful candidate you will possess the following:
• Minimum two to three years experience and demonstrated expertise in new media design and production
• Post-secondary degree/diploma in an arts/design-related field
• Clear understanding of visual hierarchy, grid design and page layout
• A background in interaction design
• Have used a variety of techniques for solving interaction design problems
• Understanding of information architecture
• Familiar with user-centered design and usability principles
• Complete command of graphic authoring software such as Adobe Creative Suite
• Understanding of HTML / CSS
• Knowledge of the practical benefits and limitations of relevant technologies
• Experience designing for multiple screens (smartphones, tablets, and desktop) is an asset.
• Live URLs, or a portfolio of web and digital design projects is required to apply for this position.
