Hello all -
I just got back from Dublin and Interaction12. Had a great time. Travis, yes, I like Matt's quadrant system for UX roles. He popped that up on the screen for about 3 minutes during a talk. Thanks for sharing the longer description. Honestly though, I really don't care for those types of I'm in this corner, they are in that corner approaches to things in general . Nonetheless, I guess they are helpful in setting the stage and taking a stab at the problem. More to the point, they are boring and I'd rather see an info graphic. :)
While doing research for a post on my site with all the UX related conferences out there I came across the Global Service Jam website focusing on Service Design specifically. It's been a long time goal of my to find bridges from (U) Experience Design to where I'm most passionate: the Travel & Leisure sectors. Ask and you shall receive. At first glance this might be a good sub-culture within UX for me to dabble as it has obvious applications all over these domains.

So, here is the deal. I want to see if I can get together a few(maybe many) people to host a Denver Jam session later this month along with many other locations around the world. I'm looking for participants as well as one or two co-organizers. It could be 5 of us people in the basement of someone's house or the back room of a coffee shop. Any takers?

Excellent. I just confirmed with the global organizer (Adam) that we are going to give this a shot.
I just wanted to call out a few things before we get too far down the road.
· I'm a little nervous doing this since I'm not a big public speaker. If anyone would like to co-chair this delio let me know. But if this gets publicized and there are 35 then I may need some help motivating folks with some authority. :)
· This is a learning experience. That's exactly what Adam keeps saying, it's not about the results but all about having a good, positive experience. Go figure, as that's what I'd assume service design boils down to.
· I've learned that this can be pretty much ANYTHING we want it to be. Doesn't have to be 3 days. We can totally make it our own. Kind of cool. We can charge a few $ to cover costs and keep out no-shows, or make it free and hold it in a park. We can do it all in a ski gondola if we wanted. Actually, anyone have a condo in the Mtns we can use? :) Make it a one day event up there... If you are interested I encourage you to start checking out the links below and ponder what Service Design means to you ... and also what it might mean to Denver, Colorado and the Region.
· We need a name. Some rules apply like no Global in the name or brands, etc. Once we have that I can put up a web page or FB group so potential participants can check it out and get more information. "Jam" must be in the name. From Adam: " But fantasy names are also cool and fun, like Viking Jam or Little Mermaid Service Jam." @DenverSxDJam? @DenverServiceJam?
· Maybe we want to lean this thing in one direction or another in terms of what we'd like the world to see Denver, CO as? Just in case it keeps going for a few years. We could do cheesy things like Muffins & Jam, or take a stab at something fun but also awknowledging the end users (biz, pub, private, economic development, service design, etc.)
So, with all that said, let's take this offline and not bombard the UX group with tons of emails.
Can anyone interested in this please send a note to ri...@RichardPrice.com and include your email addresses and some indication of how committed you can be over the weekend of the 24th - 26th? Or if you are just SxD curious (LOL:) and want to follow along I can add you too.
I just created a Google Group named Denver Service Jam and added these follk to it.
Thanks for the interest!
