repeater operation

Thanks to Kevin, Eric, Joe and John for thier many posts and emails
on repeater operations. Now since I am kinda hard headed,-and frankly
these radios are a nightmare to program- do you have a memory channel
setup to link and unlink the repeater or for other tasks that you do
often and then change back to you primary talk channel?

Thanks for everyones comments!! The online calculator was the best
resource.

I am now ready to use reflectors and link and unlink repeaters.

I provided some links to resources to explain and help with this. One

The basics of the gateway are this:

You can either send your signal to a remote location using the gateway
without linking or you can use DPLUS linking to create a two way link

No codes to use. I link Kf6ral all the time. A good book is the
nifty Dstar users book. Right now the 2meter machine is on reflector
C. You can see the status of the repeater at [link]

Kevin Thank you for your comments, I will take the opportunity to
clarify a concept. My <attempt> to use d-star during the skywarn
exercise last Friday and Saturday flopped. And that I only made one
contact. I did not imply that d-star flopped. In my trailer I have
two Icom 2200s and only one of them has the d-star chip. It is set up

Thanks for the contact that evening. I have been trying to figure out
the gateway and repeater information myself.

The KF6RAL repeater doesn't look to have a site to learn about it's
usage. I have personally been reading lot's of other D-Star sites to
try and learn about the linking of the repeaters and have found some

Just so you all know. For Skywarn I only made one contact with
operator in Lehi Utah on KF6RAL. I don't know if I got out on the
gateway or not. I read somthings about other parts of the country
having to connect to a "reflector" to use their gateway or something
to that nature? I would like to make sure that my programming is

NWS Sky Warn next Saturday

I will be pulling my como-trailer to the NWS office about 1400hrs for
the Sky Warn Event this friday and saturday so that D-star radios
can be used. I'll have dchat up on simplex on my 2200 and hopefully
the repeaters will allow me to get the gateway. I think I have the
radios set up for gateway operation. I have id 800 and id 2200.

New Dstar equipment

I have sent Bret Mills a D-star controller and VHF module. I think
Bret is planning on installing this on Horn Mountain. This will also
be connected to the gateway.
