TORONTO. We know how beautiful it is: Clean air, safe streets, drinkable
water. Groovy vibes, cats and dogs, peace and harmony. Citizens here
focus on the Greater Good. We behave according to fairness, equality, and
out of concern for all our fellow beings. We do not operate only with
regard to profit, convenience, and power. Here people cooperate. They
communicate. They problem solve. We support our artists, our communities,
our disenfranchized. There are no racists here. No gay bashers. When our
children go to school, they learn ...

Oops, sorry. Lost my mind for a minute there. That's Toronto *after* I'm
Mayor.

November 14: Elect JENNY FRIEDLAND for MAYOR of TORONTO.

Besides, it's not as if the other candidates are any good.

June Rowlands: This woman does NOT represent the Toronto I live in. It's
clear she has no clue as to what actually occurs in this city. Indeed, if
she's ever been downtown after nightfall, she's probably been accompanied
by her buddy Chief McCormack. Of course, that's pure conjecture. But
never mind. To me, her most heinous crime to date was her move to get
buskers off the street. Where was she thinking they would go? And why
would she want them to go in the first place?

Gerry Meinzer: I don't know about you, but my interests ain't exactly
those of a big business millionaire's. Given what he says about the arts,
I can only conclude that if he becomes mayor, I'm outta here:

With the success of ... commercial productions
such as Miss Saigon and the Phantom, it's easy
to conclude that the arts can pay their own way
if only they tried harder
(Meinzer Campaign Literature)

Barbara Who?

ME: I am not a politican. I am a teacher. I have a Master's degree in
English. On balmy evenings I can be found down on Queen Street West offering
"psychiatric" advice a la Lucy van Pelt. My strengths are my ability to
communicate, to cooperate, and to problem solve.

-------

Here's what this city needs:

Less traffic in the downtown core. More bike lanes. More humane policing.
Increased communication amongst levels of government and the citizens
they claim to represent. Safety for women. Preservation of heritage
buildings and neighbourhoods. Fewer superstores. Drinking water. Extended
T.T.C. hours. Stronger enforcement of recycling policy. Reduction of
garbage and improved disposal (i.e. we shouldn't dump our garbage where
peaches ought to be growing). More buskers. Increased support for
artists. No guns. Elimination of duplicated government services. Better
inspection of low income housing, to ensure that safety standards are
actually being met. Education. Reduction of bullshit.

Things for which I will lobby Ottawa and Queen's Park:

Same sex benefits. Legalized prostitution (whoring is better than
gambling). Decriminalization of certain products which people smoke but
don't inhale and never buy. More flexible hours for establishments
licensed under the Liquor Control Act.

Did I forget anything? Just let me know. The people should be setting the
Mayor's agenda. Not the other way around.

-------

Here's how to vote:

1. Turn off the T.V.
2. Get off the couch.
3. Go to your nearest polling station. It will not be more than three
blocks away.
4. Vote.

If you were not enumerated YOU CAN STILL VOTE. Just make sure you bring i.d.
with you, and some proof of address, like a phone bill, or a hydro bill.

If you don't know where your polling station is you can call us at
599-7002. Or you can call City Hall at 392-6818, but they'll probably
put you on hold.

Remember: If you are over 18, a Canadian citizen, and a resident of the
city of Toronto, you CAN vote. You SHOULD vote. And you OUGHT to vote for
me, Jenny Friedland.

Did you *have* to send the whole thing twice?

I think she might stand a better chance of getting elected if you were
telling people the CORRECT DATE for the election.
