Sorry about the delay in my reply. I've been away from my desk most
of the day.

I'll be there. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

I'll be there but I will probably need to leave a bit early.

I thought it turned out pretty well. We broke the ice with why Scala is "better" than Ruby. David educated us on the new 2.10 features and we talked some about the future of the group. Thanks again to Kevin for finding us a location to meet, and one with room to grow! We are planning on meeting in February at the same place and time and learn about Play!, but for the life of me I can't recall the gentlemens name who volunteered.

That is very cool!
Thank you a ton guys for resurrecting all of this. If the location doesn't end up working I might be able to help with that again if needed. I'm back at SendOutCards and in a position where I can approve sponsorship of the group again. ;)
If anything I can probably bring pizza back to the group if needed.

Look forward to seeing you guys in Feb.

It was great to meet everyone.  I volunteered to give the talk in February on Play 2.  Based on the feedback from the group I was going to spend the first 30 mins giving a brief overview of the Play Framework.  And then for the last half talk about the non-blocking, event driven model.  I was going to show a sample of using the async features along with web sockets to push updates to the client.  I am open to changing / adding content based on further feedback from the group.  And I can stay around after to help build some sample Play apps if any one is interested.

And for March we are hoping to get Holly to commit to talking about Akka.

For future talks I was thinking it would be interesting to get an overview of other functional languages, like Haskell or Kotlin, if any one is familiar with those.

Thank you,

I like the idea of having brief overviews of other functional languages.

I don't know a Holly who knows Akka, but Helena rather. Is this who your talking about?
I also think it would be interesting to get an overview of other functional languages as I don't have any experience with others.

I could do the language overview presentation, if nobody else feels more qualified.  I'm familiar with a lot of functional languages, but I've only actually used Scala and Scheme.  Since it's two months in advance, though, I have time to get some practical experience.

I'd love to see a haskell demo.

March i could start talking about akka, there is much to demo and say, particularly with regard to cloud deployment architecture, parallelism, concurrency and fault tolerance so i could do shorter preso's over a few meetings with other presenters.

I am flying out to NEScala in Feb. I could do a rundown of that coolness at the March meeting.

I like the idea of several small presos.

Thanks, Helena.

I received approval from Typesafe to sponsor the next meeting, so we can have free pizza!    We can also do a free book give away or something.

Sorry, By Holly I did mean Helena.  That would be great to hear about NEScala as well.

Thanks,
Ryan

Excellent, thank you for looking into that. I guess we should first confirm with Kevin that food is allowed in the room.
