Great!
These are the kind of women Africa should be producing!
These are Africa's "Sheroes" - according to an over-civilized and erudite African Madam Sophisticat - not the Margaret Thatchers, not the Nancy Pelossis, not the Hilary Clintons, not the Angela Merkels of this world, but African female THUGS & HOOLIGANS who take the laws into their hands, behaving no different from their African male THUGS & HOOLIGANS!
Yes, indeed, she is "sending her some donations and urging right thinking people to do so!"
Won ni obirin ko ni iwa, i ni oun ko l'ori oko ni! -It is said that a woman has no home training, but she calims that she is merely unlucky in her choice of hubands!
This is MODERN AFRICAN WOMANHOOD - THUGS pretending to be "ladies"!
These are the women African children are being called upon to emulate!
This is Africa's FUTURE unrolling before our very eyes!
This is SICK!

Evelyn:Thanks for sharing thjis interesting story. I feel wuite ambivalentabout the entire incident.I believe that the incident is reflective of the tough times that currentlyprevail in Nigeria--one in which the citizenry have lost faith in the pparatus of government includingthe judicial system.Rather turn the other cheek and then allow the due process to prevail, the secretary decided to provide her own justice by literraly taken matters into her own hands,in the same way that each Nigerianhouseholder is now his or own NEPA, water authority etc. providing their own privately sourced services since thegovernment has failed to provide essential services.I donot believe that the secretary, regardless of whether she is male or female should be applauded for what she did.A more noble path would have been to make a report of physical ssault and harrassment to her bossad the police seeking redress, and compensation for herself and an offical public rebuke for the minister.Regardless of having lost this slapping contest by a score of 1 to 2 I still tbelieve that the offending minsiter should bemde to face a charge of phydical assault.Bye,Ola

This is hilarious. Does anybody know the identity of this formidable and exemplary lady... a Shero for all no nonsense women working in offices? I can send her some donations and urge right thinking people to do so. And the identity of the lawmaker if the lady looses her job...at least we can put his yeye face as a poster bloke for intimidating violence - and distribute it all over - whenever there is an assembly of civilized lawmakers from different parts of the world.MsJoe========================================================================It appears that slapping days are yet to be over in the National Assembly (Nigerian). Last week, several slaps exchanged hands. A male Rep member who slapped a secretary had the shock of his life as she replied him double fold. A slap for a slap, you may say. Trouble was said to have started when the Rep member went into the office of a lawmaker friend. The friend was not around. He subsequently demanded to use his friend’s rest room. The secretary explained that her boss had given strict instructions that in a situation whereby snakes are now being found in lawmakers’ toilets, no one should be allowed into his office in his absence, not to mention his rest room. The lawmaker however felt insulted and made to force his way into his friend’s rest room. The secretary was said to have locked the door to the toilet. This annoyed the Rep member who immediately gave her a resounding slap. Without wasting time, she replied. Thereafter, all hell then burst loose as the squabble almost degenerated into a brawl. Thankfully, other well meaning aides in the office intervened and saved the day. However, the secretary, I learnt has been reported to her boss and the honourable member who was slapped has promised to ensure she loses her job. Though some ardent Christians in NASS are saying the secretary did the wrong thing by not turning the other cheek, others are hailing her courage to face up to what they termed "oppression."The slapping culture which was popularised by Hon. Chinyere Igwe, who successfully pasted slaps on the hapless visage of a NASS security man sometime ago, seems to be catching on really fast. Instead of arguing, people now seem to prefer slapping sense into one another. Any act, speech or mannerism that seemed out of turn may now earn a deserving slap. So, people are now learning to be civic to each other to avoid a "slap me I slap you" situation. However I will bring you the follow up of this story as the events unfold. In a message dated 2009-11-11 9:19:45 A.M. "Abeg, this secretary is the best news out of Nigeria in a long time. She is my shero. Am in fact shelving the original topic of my SR column this week to do an ode to this woman. What she did is more than just a slap. It more than just fighting back. It is one small step for a woman, one giant step for Nigerian humanity in the struggle to demystify power and bring down the arrogant oppressors in the rulership one rung of the ladder at a time." - Pius Adesanmi piusad...@yahoo.com
Dr. Pius Adesanmi:
Whatever the mrerits of self-defense, I here beg to disagree with you.
Two wrongs never make a right!
In a similar situation, I would not be comfortable with my wife doing that - regradless how much she was aggrieved.
There has to be more CIVILIZED and MORE ACCEPTABLE ways for doing things, for righting perceived wrongs, and it has to start with someone, somewhere!
Women fighting like a hooligans in public to teach their male hooligan counterparts a lesson is not the answer to Nigeria's woes.
Let's come up with other ways - even if we cannot rely on the police or the court to do the right thing.
For example, I would not mind "renting thugs" to go and beat the hell out of the man, destroy his car or whatever it takes to send him a clear message - this is Nigeria! And you cannot abuse my wife or daughter and expect to go Scot free!
But not my wife or daughter going around slapping men and women like common street hooligans!
No way!

Dr Ola KassimHere we go again. I just don't undersatnd this man's permanent fascination with Lapland and Lalaland. A female secretary should file a report on physical harassment to her boss and the police in Nigeria/Abuja!!! She'd be lucky if the police does not charge her with wasting Federal government's time by even filing such a report. And what happened to Governor Ohakim and his convoy when they beat up Elizabeth Udoudo in broad daylight? Were reports not filed? And what happened to that yeye Admiral Arogundade whose ratings beat and stripped Miss Uzoma Okere? He was quietly transferred to Abuja. What has happened to that buffoon, Chinyere Igwe, who slapped a security guard for not recognizing him as a big man? We have all these antecedents with absolutely nothing happening. Yet someone sits down in Toronto and cleverly shifts the onus onto the victim - once again allowing power to get off easily. Abeg, this secretary is the best news out of Nigeria in a long time. She is my shero. Am in fact shelving the original topic of my SR column this week to do an ode to this woman. What she did is more than just a slap. It more than just fighting back. The servicers and quislings of power can continue their Lapland casuistry, watering down the significance of such symbolic little victories of the little people. There are sevral issues on which yoiu and I tend to disagree. But I agree wholeheartedly with you on this.
And the main key to my agreeing with you hinges on this:
"I wouldn't want any of my staff, from secretary to the most senior technologists slapping any of my colleagues even though some truly deserve to be slapped once in a while due to their inconsiderate and rude behavior.
Dr Ojo:I might also add that the secretary's primary responsibility is to provide servicesfor his/her boss and his clients including his colleagues and his constituency. The rule of etiquette in both private enterprise and in the public sector isalways that the Customer Knows Best. The secretary should have obligedthe lawmaker're request to use the washroom in the first instance regardlessof the instructions from his/her boss and then lodge a complaint later. The secretary was neither inany emotional or physical danger at the onset of the incident. On the other hand, the lawmaker might have been in danger of wetting his pants oreven worse if he was suffering from a bout of diarrhea soil his clothings and foul up theentire premises.:) A man has got to go when he has to go especially if he has a weak bladder:)If the secretary's boss truly want his private washroom totally inaccessible to his visitors,he should have locked it up with a key either in his own possession or left with the secretary..The above does not justify the act of slapping the secretary by the offending lawmakerfor which he should be charged by the police. The secretary's act of slapping his or her boss'ss colleague andguest is also deplorable, as it also violated the :CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT INJUNCTION.Even though I believe that a verbal reprimand is in order for the secretary, any additional actions such as a suspension and ordismissal would be over the top.Two wrongs certainly do not make a right! Let us work (notwithstanding the obstacles) to build a civilized society in Nigeriarather than let it become what 60 Minutes Michael Wallace once described asa Country of Anything Goes.I wouldn't want any of my staff, from secretary to the most senior technologists slapping any of my colleagueseven though some truly deserve to be slapped once in a while due to their inconsiderate and rude behavior.I wouldn't slap my colleagues--so why should my secretary do so regardless of the circumstances especiallywhen he or she is in no physical or mortal danger. The offending legislator should be made to face a disciplinary hearing by the house committee that is responsible for discplineas well as charged by the police for physical aassault. There goes my additional two kobo on this matter!

| Baba Ojo sir, Even yours is not a good solution to the problem. I am sure you have not been back to the country in a long time. I tell you the market price for thugs has hit deregulation. What we got for one Akilapa in those days was about 1000 Naira plus a good supply of Igbo and ogogoro. It has gone so high that you cannot imagine the asking price for one Akinlapa. Those boys are too greedy, they want an arm and a leg for doing the dirty job, what Sergi and his off-duty boys did for almost free. I think you are better taking the case before the court and ask your lawyer to settle the judge or who ever is in charge. That way you put the guy behind bars for a week or two or else go to Satelite Town to hire Naval ratings to do the job for you... Ok, none of these solutions is as good as going to Okobaba to meet a good Babalawo who can still collect Naira not those who ask for Dollars ooooo, they are internet Babalawo Go to a real good one and you will be sure the person who slapped you will live to regret it. If you are too afraid to use Babalawo go to Bar Beach with the picture of the person and leave the rest for Brother Jero Please do not hire those greedy thugs...one of my missions is to spoil their business. They are no use. Try the Babalawo, make sure you have not touched the face where the slap landed and you can provide him with any part of your assialants body...like strands of hair or even spittle. I tell you this is what is called AJEBI-IDAN It has never failed...you will come back to thank me. So all House of Reps people be warned oooo, you slap anyone, you will get one aluwo (go ask Atomic Bomb of Kwara State in his hey days or Dele Jonathan!!) A word is enough for the wise. Let the rat of the home stead hear and tell the rat of the farm land. Kole --- On Wed, 11/11/09, Dr. Valentine Ojo <val...@md.metrocast.net> wrote: |
