The church's most famous example of the truly original is the sin attributed to our ancestors, Mr. Adam and his girlfriend Eve and the serpent : original sin
In the Nigerian English of the market place at Aba, the word original takes on the added, associative local meaning of “authentic” - the cry “dis na “original” - e noh be imitation” is trumpeted because at Aba and Onitsha can be found all manner of counterfeit goods of known brands, from spare parts for Volvo cars to toy machine-guns and bottled “Holy Water “, alleged to have been taken from the Holy Land (possibly, merely clean, Nigerian rainwater…)
To suggest any distrust for President Buhari's sincerity of purpose is akin to saying that e.g. the mission of Islam's last prophet is not sincere because the original Hebrew prophets before him - allegedly had the same intention – directives from the Almighty to reform the corrupt, wayward ways of mankind and to get them on the right track.
But, really, has there ever been a “change chant” before the second coming of Brother Buhari ?
Did Awo and Zik also sing about change?
