In Biko’s story, not to divert attention away from the condolences, is our collective ambivalence. We see the goodness in our people, at all levels. But the badness of the state consumes us.

How do we restore the damage to our hope and emotions by refocusing our energies to good people?

This is what always drives me and generates the contradictions in my statements:

Can we celebrate the good?

Can the good restore our values?

Can the good gives us hope?

Biko,

Very moving story and tribute. Your sister was an angel indeed. May her soul find rest and succor in the hereafter and may you find the strength to cope.

Thanks Toyin. There are good people and bad people everywhere. Sometimes, good things happen to bad people and sometimes bad things happen to good people. Our task is to mobilize the good people to take control of state power and use it to better conditions for everyone. The people in government are not all bad people but state power is structured to benefit the greedy few at the expense of the masses. When the working people seize state power, there will still be bad guys but good policies will limit their wickedness and satisfy the needs of the majority.

"This is what always drives me and generates the contradictions in my statements:

1. To celebrate the good, we need to remove needless biases and ethnicity syndromes in our mindset.

2. We need to have a general  acceptable definition of the good.

3. Even when we the good, there is need to understand what constitutes our values. This raises the issue of definition of 'our values'. Do we have agreeable set of values to be restored by 'the good'?

4. What kind of hope do we anticipate 'the good' to offer us? But then what is hope? Is any hope being lost?

Why should working people"seize" state  power? (the "revolutionary"rhetoric of gratuitous violence again!)

Why is it not possible for people to recognize their ultimate self interests in voting in a workers government if enough ground work is done by the vanguard to that effect?

Will the people be perpetually blind to their long term self interests that these interests have to be forced on them?

This is how the vanguard has continually shot itself in the foot by use of words.
