Trump order: Nigerians may no longer get 2-year American visa

??????????

Nigerians are at risk of losing American entry visas which have two-year validity except President Muhammadu Buhari led government change existing immigration policy with the United States.

An indication of this emerged yesterday as content on the Executive Order signed on Friday by US President Donald Trump became public.

Section 9 of the Executive Order states: “The Secretary of State shall review all nonimmigrant visa reciprocity agreements to ensure that they are, with respect to each visa classification, truly reciprocal insofar as practicable with respect to validity period and fees, as required by sections 221(c) and 281 of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1201(c) and 1351, and other treatment.

“If a country does not treat United States nationals seeking nonimmigrant visas in a reciprocal manner, the Secretary of State shall adjust the visa validity period, fee schedule, or other treatment to match the treatment of United States nationals by the foreign country, to the extent practicable…”

Currently, Nigeria issues one-year multiple-entry visa to Americans, which is a non-reciprocation of the two-year visa US issues to Nigerians.

As Trump order takes immediate effect, Nigerians holding valid two-year US visa may also be affected.

However, Nigeria charges higher fee compared to charges by the American government despite shorter visa validity.

While the US charges Nigerians $160 for a typical visit visa, Nigeria charges $180, in addition to a $35 “processing fee”.

Meanwhile, Iran has announced that it will ban all United States citizens from entering the country.

This was contained in an Iranian Foreign Ministry statement published on state media Saturday.

The country’s decision is in response to President Donald Trump‘s executive order limiting immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries.

Nigeria is not among the seven nations that are temporarily banned until, as he said during his campaign, he and his team figure out "what the hell is goin' on". I suppose that there are people who could be fleeing from Boko Haram, all the way to the United States. As this Democrat from Arizona put it,

" If there is a Muslim ban, refugees can pretend they're Christians. You know,  just like Republicans do"

Everyone is bashing President Trump but we could have some sympathy for him, it's not paranoia, after all he has every right to suspect that some Muslim terrorist , up to no good could want to sneak into America (US) and blow up Trump Tower just as they did with the Twin Towers.

In any case this one is likely to be issued with a visa and a green card  immediately:

Hannah arendt, in the Origins of Totalitarianism, explained how hitler’s unfounded hatred of and p ersecution of jews, made them into the very thing hitler accused them of being: his enemies.

Trump acts like a monstrous dictator, using his powers as best he can to sow havoc and damage.

The logic he’s used against muslims is madness. If I were to tell you, Cornelius, about a jew in Europe who became an anti-Semitic alt-right fanatic, would you then say it is right to exclude jews from Europe or Israel? It’s insane what he is doing, and you are still acting as an apologist for actions that historically accord with far right and fascist rulers

There is no doubt from the recent executive disorders that Trump wants to create American democracy in his own image. He will soon be made to learn the hard way.

There is no doubt that Trump cannot differentiate between running a corporate business in which you issue orders to employees who dare not say no if they want to keep their jobs and running a corporate country in which the people will say no vociferously if they dont share your vision of running the country.  He will soon be made to learn the hard way.

There is no doubt Trump cannot differentiate between being a dictator and a leader. He will soon be made to learn the hard way.

There is no doubt that Trump can only go as far as Republican political supremacy across the board allow him to dare, giving the effects of his senile exuberant executive disorders on their future prospects and socio-economic stability of their own tenure and Americas global prospects.  He will soon be made to learn the hard way.

Sorry Cornelius, I was intemperate

People who are not here, now, in the country should know what it is like. Every day trump signs orders that rescind progress that we’ve fought for, for long time, like abortion rights. I understand the need to compromise on it, on guns, even on security issues. But this goes so far to the right we are obliged to try to form coalitions, close ranks, and struggle back. This morning the univ of Michigan made a public statement it would not cooperate w federal authorities in revealing immigration status of its students. It was a huge, courageous stance. We tried to organize, mobilize, strategize how to get our city and university, mich state u, to follow suit. Later it did. We discussed organizing a protest rally on behalf of the immigrants or refugees or foreigners, with or without green cards. These protests were before our eyes, all over the world. Would we sit back and let our colleagues, grad students, dear friends, be screwed by a maniac whose policies would satisfy only his bigoted base.

We thought of the St Louis, the boat turned back in 1939, whose cargo were returned to the Nazis to be slaughtered. A nightmare. A never again; and now we, we are living it every day.

The hatred of muslims, under the cover of imagining isis represents all muslims, and somehow threatens us, is given full charge day after day. The resistance, even within the republicans and military, doesn’t prevail.

This doesn’t even count the damage to our relations with mexico, Canada, the Europeans, and china. Does anyone imagine america’s progress lies in alliance with Russia, or is it trump’s business interests that will progress?

Does anyone really imagine Africa will prosper if an authoritarian megalomaniac rules this country, and that the damage done to the environment won’t affect all of us?

I could go on, but you get the point. We are living in a huge crisis, and everyone I know, my family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances, are in a panic, in depression, or trying to live by managing the nightmare. Under those circumstances, I find myself all too often cracking and using words and tones of voice I normally control.

So, sorry for my tone. I hope you have a glimpse of what “the intelligentsia” of this country, or any who imagine themselves to have a real progressive set of principles, find  truly a nightmare.

Ken, Cornelius and our People:

Not to worry:  in addition to the courts taming and teaching Trump a lesson or two, he will FULLY learn that not only did he lose the MAJORITY vote by almost 3 million votes, but for the next four years, wherever he goes in the US (and abroad by the way), he will be "de-legitimized" by demonstrations after demonstrations for every fascist act of his by a very VOCAL majority that will include not only American citizens who did not vote for him, but also by iILLEGAL immigrants who could not/did not vote, but ALSO the LEGAL immigrants who also did not vote.  If those two groups had voted, he would have lost by maybe 20 million votes - but now they can MARCH!

Trump is a man who did not serve in the Military; who has never won an elected office except this Presidency; who has not worked for anybody else except his business-man father in a family business; who has ALWAYS been a boss.     So he has NEVER had to be humbled or to defer to anybody - and now he has one of  the most powerful positions in the World?

That is why he is giving Executive Orders at 12 per week like a tin-pot dictator, at which rate he would give 2,500 by the end of his four-year tenure!   )https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/executive-orders).  Obama issued 250 in an eight-year period. (See table below   https://www.archives.gov/federal-register/executive-orders/disposition.html)

I do not know you insist on "Hire American" - and expect other nations to hire Americans, 8 million of who (outside of the Military) are estimated to be living and working abroad (https://www.aaro.org/about-aaro/6m-americans-abroad). I don't know how you insist on "Buy American" when you wish to sell so many of your exports abroad.   Does he want to produce everything within the US and sell everything within the US?   It just does not make sense to be so jingoistic, and don't expect a push-back, when Russia and China and India, etc. are ready to move into space you live.

IT is bizarre....He will eventually be humbled by Man and God, we should watch.

And there you have it.

Bolaji Aluko

PS1:  By the way, my country Nigeria has more Muslims - and has a terrorist organization Boko Haram - than each of the seven countries banned so far.  Boko Haram can be "tempted" to have Nigeria  be put on Trump's list by deliberately targeting US assets and personnel.  Then Nigerian green card holders - and possibly dual citizens - will get nervous.....Trump's order would then be a self-inflicted wound, and Nigeria will have its own hurt.

The question popped up on Trump's twitter account : " Are we living in Nazi Germany?"

Re – what you refer to as his (Trump's) “bigoted base” - which includes a sizeable clutch of anti-Semites (bombaklats) - and of course this explains Trump's reluctance to name Jews by name in his Holocaust address - so as not to alienate those elements in his bigoted base.

Before, during and after the campaign, all that I can say is that I just can't stand Hillary and with the UN declaration that Israel had no connection whatsoever with Jerusalem or the Temple Mount, just on principle I was with the brave dude who was going to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel's capital : Jerusalem

Today, I have digested all that you said and I am with you all the way.

You are absolutely correct Professor Harrow: “People who are not here, now, in the country should know what it is like” I understand Sir, that we are living in what some of the Bible scholars say are the last days. I was already feeling sufficiently humbled by Professor Falola's beautiful eulogy of Barbara Harlow, in the end, wondering, is she a relative of Rabbi Jules Harlow?

America!

You got men who can't hold their peace and woman who can't control their tongues
The rich seduce the poor and the old are seduced by the young.

When you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up
When you gonna wake up strengthen the things that remain ?

Adulterers in churches and pornography in the schools
You got gangsters in power and lawbreakers making rules.”

(Dr. Dyan – songster chronicler of his age, his time and his place)

But we are not witnessing the complete moral collapse and decay of America ; there's the good thing that people are already opposing Trump's Trumpism, before it's too late. It was he himself asked rhetorically, “Is this Nazi Germany ?”. In your opinion what's the answer to that question? After saying never again , are we going to permit it? In good British English the answer is Not bloody likely! Trump himself has pledged NEVER AGAIN! Apparently people are not going to be led like lambs to the slaughter – not without kicking and shouting and these demonstrations are evidence that something is happening – as Dr. Dylan crooned,

Could be the Führer
Could be the local priest
You know sometimes Satan comes as a man of peace”

Before leaving the White House, Brother Obama destroyed the register of Muslims, I suppose anticipating it falling into the wrong hands, the signals already clear that there could be a possible witch-hunt by the forces of Trumpism. But that which was destroyed can be rebuilt pronto...

Equally worrying, that within your intelligence & security apparatus, competence may be replaced by incompetence and this incompetence may result in some terrorists getting through via the trojan horses and a couple of spectacular or not so spectacular Radical Islam terrorist attacks taking place in the US ( between the Mexican border and Lake Michigan) could also result in Herr Trump declaring some kind of state of emergency throughout the mighty states (I'm sure that you can imagine him foaming at the mouth - water-boarding already back in style and saying that “the perpetrators and whatever countries they are from are going to pay dearly for this “– and that no price is going to be too high to pay, that the price is going to be higher than his wall that will seal off unwanted Mexicans.

No sooner has Canada's Prime Minister Trudeau tweeted his one-upmanship on Trump, To those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength #WelcomeToCanada” than there is a terrorist attach in Canada .

Trump is going to pump this for all its worth

The next terrorist attacks in the US could herald a new era , with President Trump probably awarding himself ( to the extent that the US constitution permits) what I'm sure Professor Harrow will term “ draconian powers” - not that he has to pass many new laws in order to do as he please, he has already set the ball in motion – as you say, “Every day trump signs orders that rescind progress that we’ve fought for, for long time...” etc.

A more immediate area of great worry is North Korea which - so far – China has been holding on the leash. But Trump being such a vain mother fakker and pussy grabber you yourself can imagine the possible twitter exchange of insults, getting way out of control and escalating into a nuclear war between Trump and Kim Jong-un

As Jin Canrong, associate dean of the Department of International Studies at Renmin University of China, told state-run Global Times: "Tillerson's statement was too arrogant. If the new US administration follows this route and adopts this attitude, then it will lead to a war between China and the US and that would mean the end of US history or even all of humanity,"

We are on the precipice of bottomless abyss, turning or about to turn the never again into a thermonuclear holocaust and all our lust into nuclear dust as the final funeral pyre of all mankind, with no one left behind to write eulogies or our obituaries

In order to avoid all this, what Sir, must be done?
