Whatta turd is the President! US troops all over the world and the
illegals are pouring across our southern border. Bush would suck a
dead skunk's pecker for a handful of votes, for that latino vote he is
willing to compromise the social and cultural future of America.

I agree the U.S. Government could and should put troops on the borders

All that name calling isn't going to get it done.

It only lowers your status as a credible poster.

Cross posting a stupid message to newsgroups where it is OFF TOPIC achieved

And do what, fire on unarmed Mexicans families?

Something that both our leadership and the people are just going to
have to learn. The Army are not cops, and using them as cops will be
a disaster. Unless you want to have several hyndred dead men, women
and children a year.

I have mixed feelings about the military taking on the role of border
patrol. They are not cops, they are soldiers. Perhaps there is a viable
alternative? Perhaps they could build more installations/bases (small ones)
at different points relatively close to the borders (yes, it would be
costly)? This way, the mere presence of the military could provide the
needed deterrence and the military would not have to serve a function they
were not trained to serve and nothing would be violated. Is this what you
mean when you say the US should put troops on the borders?

For some reason, I don't think one sees many Canadians trying to smuggle

Actually, there is a very large number of Canadians living illegally
in the US. In fact there are more canadians in Los Angeles than in
any Canadian city.

Patroling a border is more of a military mission than a police action. We
think it's not their job because our military hasn't done anything on our
shores in over 100 years.
In the Army I was stationed at Fort Huachuca (pronounced WA-CHOO-KA), AZ
which is right on the Mexican border in Cochise county. Last I heard,
Cochise county was the #1 worst spot in the US for border crossings.
Rural property down there is practically worthless because of it. The
Army currently does nothing about it there, but the Border Patrol runs a
blimp on the post.

Hell, I'd re-enlist if I could get stationed down there to defend the
border. As it stands though, I have no desire go back in and end up
somewhere even hotter than where I currently live (Phoenix).

Mort! You're quickly becomming my hero. Just what exactly got you so upset?
What do you advocate if sending them back is not the answer?
I got it! Why don't we send the bus over there to pick them up! Then there
wouldn't be so many dead Mexicans out in the desert and in the backs of

I think Colin knows what he's talking about. I took the liberty of doing a
bit of research on this and see below for some interesting info. Does Colin
really need to provide anything further to substantiate his claim that there
is a large number in LA and the US? He just stated "a large number" and he
didn't specify how many....below are the *estimated* numbers per INS. Keep
in mind that California is one of the states known to hold a large
percentage of illegal immigrants for the US.

http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/shared/aboutus/statistics/299.htm If
you go to this page, a table of stats from the INS for FY96, scroll down to
Illegal at the bottom of the page. Note 'Illegal Alien Population',
'Illegal Immigration', and then 'Aliens Apprehended'. You will notice that
Canada is/has been in the top 10, matter of fact they are number 4 in
illegal population w/n the US and immigration status in the US.
1996: Population: Canada: 120,000
Growth 92-96: Canada: 8,000
Apprehended: Canada: 3,160
Now, this was from a few years ago and am sure it has grown steadily over
the years. Notice the number difference between those in
population/immigration and those apprehended. Not many have been
apprehended. An illegal immigrant understandably would prefer a largely
populated areas (i.e., Los Angeles) as opposed to an area less populated to
where they might be caught more readily.

California is one of the states with largest numerical increases in the
1990s for unauthorized population. It was estimated that California has the
appx 32% of the national total of unauthorized population in January of
2000, that would be about 2.2 million. In Table B of the link I am
referencing from and for the 10-year period of 90-2000 Canada is in the top
15 for unauthorized population in the US. Now if I'm reading the table
correctly there has been an increase since 1990. 1990: 25,000....2000:
47,000...that's a growth of 22,000 (and this is an estimate) in a 10-year
period with California as previously noted carrying a third in percentage of
overall unauthorized population by illegal immigrants for the entire
USA..that is at least 2000 per year, and this is 2003.
