Reports to:
Director-ITS Infrastructure & Operations
Primary Role:
- Under administrative direction, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to supervise the activities of the System Maintenance & Performance Team.
- Directs the daily operations of employees using established policies and procedures and sets priorities to ensure completion of department projects.
- Provides administrative oversight, to include employee attendance tracking, budget preparation and reconciliation, and oversight of projects assigned to the department.
- Oversees the overall processes associated with ITS hardware and operating system releases to ensure they are running efficiently and meeting client and management needs.
- This team installs computer systems, ensures that back up systems operate effectively, buys hardware and software, and contributes to organizational policy with regard to quality standards and strategic planning.
Key duties:
Project Responsibilities:
- Release planning and resource coordination for emerging projects.
- Resource management of project

System Performance:
- Active participation in system performance management issues, such as high availability, backup/recovery, and security of the various environments [20%]
Change Management:
- Insure compliance with the Change Management process
- Leads the team during the development life cycle, including installation of hardware in development, test, and production environments [20%]
Day to Day Support:
- Perform key support activities to prepare, install, configure, secure, upgrade, patch, maintain, and manage the release and promotion of software, systems, and hardware
- Supervises the day-to-day activities and production of system maintenance and performance teams.
- Identifies, develops, and recommends operating system and hardware release policies, methods, and procedures. Reviews regularly and makes necessary revisions to departmental policies and procedures.
- Ensures policies and procedures are properly interpreted and applied within the department.
- Ensures assignments, goals, and objectives are achieved through effective controls and follow-up.

- Manage a staff of system maintenance and performance specialists.
- Train specialists in change management, deployment and documentation techniques. In conjunction with staff, develop individual training plans and provide training opportunities such as formal courses, self-paced instruction and seminars.
- Provide guidance on performance standards and company procedures. Independently conduct performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and coaching.
- Make recommendations for employee salary actions including increases, merits, equity increases, and reclassifications. In the event of unsatisfactory performance, provide coaching and progressive discipline. [20%]
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science or related discipline required.
- Significant additional experience and/or certifications or other education and training may be substituted for each year of formal education. .

Knowledge:
- Basic concepts, practices and procedures of information technology systems, applications, and operating systems.
- Operating Systems to manage project folders and files.
- Systems/networks and/or critical systems sufficient to understand and direct efforts to configure and administer systems
- Hardware lifecycle, including maintenance activities and IT operations/production sufficient to communicate about development, testing, and production environments.
- Software configuration management and release management principles sufficient to ensure the integrity of the hardware and to direct staff to improve processes.
- Operating system configuration and release management tools sufficient to direct staff in their proper use.
- Release, change, and configuration management processes.
- Project management principles sufficient to be an effective project lead on projects
- Implementation and maintenance of the defined standards.
- Compliance with IT Security Policies.
- Provides fault resolution and escalation
- 10 to 15 years prior work experience in information technology, including five years of management experience.

Experience:
- Ability to work independently and make timely decisions
- Diagnose server support events
- Adherence to documented team compliance expectations.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills, including use of the telephone and e-mail.
- Expert knowledge of the supported Windows family, iSeries, AIX of operating systems to diagnose, troubleshoot, and recover server hardware and operating system server support events.
- Expert knowledge of the supported Windows family, iSeries, and AIX to insure system resource optimization.
Work Environment:
The position may require the individual to work a rotational shift pattern to provide IT support outside of the normal working day. Further, it may require the individual to occasionally provide "on-call" out of hours support during the evenings, nights, and or weekends.
