Description: POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Medical Director ensures that delivery of physician and other health care services achieves the Genesis HealthCare® mission and is incorporated into all healthcare sites. This is done by working with Medical Directors, employed and independent practitioners, and Regional Management to oversee the implementation, utilization, and outcomes measurement of Genesis HealthCare® patient care programs utilizing nationally accepted standards of care.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Accountable for successful implementation of all health care programs, policies, and procedures within the Region.

• Provide medical oversight of non-clinical policies and procedures that have health care implications.

• Responsible for hiring, training, management and supervision of Medical Directors, subspecialty Medical Directors, and other contracted physician consultants.

• Responsible for all Center Medical Director performance within their respective territory.

• Responsible for all physician services provided within the Region including employed and independent physicians and practitioners.

• Oversees the relationship with all multi-facility medical providers.

• Implements credentialing and privileging policies within their respective territory

• Work with the CMO to:

? Establish standards for medical practice

? Establish standards for medical administrative oversight, i.e., credentialing, physician contracts, etc.

? Set clinical priorities

• Analyze all regional outcome reports and initiates actions to improve care delivery, operational efficiencies, and resource utilization.

• Work closely with the Executive, Senior, and Regional Vice Presidents of Centers’ Operations to ensure that health care outcomes are consistently being achieved in a cost effective manner.

• Responsible for review, analysis, and follow-up of significant adverse events in the Area.

• Responsible for health care aspects of external oversight including federal and state regulatory surveys and accreditation surveys.

• Involved in complex survey management issues as identified by Vice Presidents of Clinical Operations

• Participate in development and management of regional budgets particularly regarding clinical and physician resources.

• Provides medical oversight of resource utilization management including pharmacy cost management.

• Works closely with regional management regarding business development and hospital relationships

• Responsible for medical oversight of all clinical initiatives with payors.

• Is an active participant in the Regional Senior Management Team.

• Participate in assimilation process for acquisitions, affiliates, management contracts, particularly regarding physician services

• Provide information and education through periodic regional Medical Director Meetings and Nurse Practitioner Meetings for purposes of clinical review and training.

• Assist CMO and COO of GPS in establishing clinical policies and procedures for GPS

• Responsible for maintaining personal CME and state licensure requirements.

• Works collaboratively with regional Vice Presidents of Clinical Operations to ensure optimal patient healthcare outcomes.

• Participates in Regional Ethics Advisory Group

• Continues to act as a Center Medical Director and Attending Physician to some degree

• Other duties as assigned
