Very cool!

Hopefully you're all planning on coming to the MWRC DevOps conference on Apr 3  (part of the larger MWRC): http://mtnwestrubyconf.org/2013/devops-sessions

It's great to see a DevOps community growing here.

Greetings fellow Rubyists,

I'm trying to get the word out about DevOpsUT, a meetup I am organizing for those who are interested in any of the various aspects of the DevOps meme. Topics include, but are not limited to, continuous delivery/deployment, configuration management, monitoring, metrics, and building/hacking work culture.

Our inaugural meetup event was held last month and our next is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27th starting at 6:30 PM. Thomas Hatch has agreed to give a presentation on Salt Stack; location and other details on the meetup event page: http://www.meetup.com/DevOpsUT/events/104586942/

Please join us and tell a friend. I have cross-posted this to the UPUG list.

Thanks for your attention!

Is there a regular meeting schedule for this or group?  Because your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

It's my intention schedule meetings regularly on the third Wednesday of each month, starting in March.

I feel like the ruby market is pretty good right now. There are lots of job postings here, and I know there are many jobs that aren't. There is also opportunity for remote workers. I live in Utah but work for a company in Maryland. I suppose entry level and home worker might not mix that well.

I'm sure others can comment. I don't know the outlook specifically for entry level.

Dear Ruby Masters-

My brother and I are both want to learn Ruby. We're both seniors at BYU (math & business). We're both looking at programs like DevBootcamp & AppAcademy to teach us Ruby. BUT we'd both like to come back to Utah and build up the tech community here instead of at SF or NYC.

Our question: how good is the job market for ruby devs here in Utah? Which Startups and companies code in Ruby and do they hire entry level web devs?

Sorry for the noob question, but we want to figure it out and both come here.

The company I currently work for as Lead Developer will be hiring entry-level programmers in the next six-months, most likely, to begin building out an internal dev team here in Utah. My goal is to add two entry-level Ruby programmers by the Fall.

Dear Brothers Jones,

I've been watching the Ruby scene since 2007. Never at that time did I think that I'd see a billboard along I-15 specifically advertising jobs for Ruby devs. (MoneyDesktop). It's still up.
The mere existence of this very active Google group illustrates how far Ruby has continued to grow. Compared to years past, it's better than ever. Ruby growth has not slowed except for a hiccup in 2008-09 when EVERYTHING slowed.
In 07-08 I could not find a seriously qualified Ruby freelancer in the valley, I had heard of a few and worked with a few people here and there that kind claimed to know Ruby but when it came down to it, they were way too green. I had to use a guy in Montreal and another in India who really knew their stuff.
Now, the Utah Ruby community is thriving comparatively. everyone is jumping on the Ruby wagon.

Come build Zion. That's my 2¢.
