SchoolDigger.com Launches New School Ranking Tool to Help Parents
Evaluate Schools
URL: http://www.schooldigger.com

Parents now have a new tool for evaluating the quality of their
child’s education. SchoolDigger.com has introduced a new ranking
service that gives parents an intuitive way to compare a particular
school’s performance to other schools in its district, city or state.
This free service is a result of 3 years of feedback from site users
and is the only one of its kind on the web.

SchoolDigger.com already ranks public schools based on average state-
administered standardized reading and math test scores, but this
unique tool also allows parents to create customized listings based on
other criteria such as school grade, test and year. For example, a
parent might want to see how well his child’s 5th-grade class
performed state-wide in science, or how well New York high school
students performed on the NY Regents French test, or how many of the
top ten schools in Florida are magnet schools. The flexibility of this
tool allows parents to identify and compare schools based on what is
important to them.

Also new with this release is the ability to compare school rankings
from year to year. With this data, a parent can see which schools in
the area are most improved, and see how a particular school’s ranking
has changed over the years. SchoolDigger.com’s new tool is
exceptionally powerful, useful and intuitive, and gives parents
extraordinary access to new information.

SchoolDigger.com’s Mission
With the maturing of the web, the proliferation of school data has
been both a blessing and a curse for parents. Every state Department
of Education releases school metrics, but this data is rarely in a
format that is useful to the average web surfer. Most school
information is released in huge Excel files or with a difficult-to-use
web interface, and the mechanisms for comparison are non-existent.
With this frustration in mind, SchoolDigger.com was founded in 2006 to
bring all this data together in one easy-to-use website.

In addition to the rankings, SchoolDigger.com offers detailed profiles
of over 120,000 public and private schools in the United States. The
profiles include over twenty years of enrollment information, student
body makeup, student/teacher ratios, and more. Another useful feature
– particularly for those moving to a new area - gives parents the
ability to search for and then compare schools near a specific address
or within a zip code. Earlier this year, SchoolDigger.com also added
user ratings, allowing parents, students and teachers to rate a school
and provide comments. Several thousand comments have already been
submitted, with more being added every day.
