Hi I'm just setting up Urchin on my servers and I could use a little help getting it working properly, I figured this would be the best place to start but seeing as how they won't even update the forum category to the current version I'm going to guess that google has pretty much written Urchin off at this point.

One problem I'm having is the 'visitors' on my report is always 0. I'm using the ip+user-agent method of tracking.

Thanks!

Ryan,

Google has written off Urchin, in fact they've retired it.  See my blog post on the topic here: http://www.analyticspros.com/blog/urchin/urchin-retirement/

Regarding your question, Visitors are '0' in IP+UA mode because there are no calculations against the Visitors table.  Visitor metrics are only calculated when UTM data is used.

Best,

-Caleb

Thanks for the quick reply Caleb, I just realized I forgot to reply to this post when I read it last week.

I'm having a couple issues getting everything square in my installation so I'll probably be back with more questions, good to see there's still people who frequent these forums!

When the day of reckoning comes, they'll have to pry Urchin out of my cold, dead hands…

As Caleb and others have noted before, there are few good alternatives for certain niche purposes, either free or commercial.  We may have to resort to building our own.

Ryan,

Yeap there are actually quite a few of us, maybe even 4 or 5 who read this! ;)  I think as Urchin sunsets the forums will stay alive, and if not, we'll kick on up through our site, www.analyticspros.com.

I have to ask - based on your profile picture and "Bend" - is your last name Bend, or do you live in Bend, Oregon?

Gauging the market size, and, thus, the business incentive to make "our own" is hard, though.  Any thoughts on what the market size might be?

I started a Moderator series on this: submit your suggestions/votes here!  http://goo.gl/mod/kTM3

Haha, understandable, actually it is my last name.

I'm actually from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Flattest part of the country for miles so I have to travel a quite a bit to get my Rocky Mountain fix!
