Urban Youth Academy Summer League Information

Dear Academy Members,

 

The pre-draft workout for the Summer High School League has been set for 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 19^th at the Academy. The purpose of the workout is to assess player skill levels and draft players to teams, which will be formed with the objective of achieving competitive balance. This is a developmental league and all players will receive maximum playing time. Those who have already submitted an application are set to attend the workout. If you are still interested in joining you can submit the attached player application to the Academy in person or email it to Jacob Doyle at Jacob...@mlb.com by May 17^th.

 

Also, the Urban Youth Academy is happy to announce that case by case financial assistance will be available to individuals who cannot afford the $250 sign-up fee for our summer high school league. Those qualified individuals will be responsible for community service hours at the Academy. We are also happy to announce another extension to the registration deadline. Applications are now due by Friday, May 17th, two days prior to our scheduled pre-draft workout at the Academy.

 

Below is a message to prospective coaches and players with the new deadline of May 17th

 

We hope that you are enjoying a great 2013 baseball season. The Urban Youth Academy is happy to announce two newly developed high school and collegiate summer leagues for 2013. We are looking for players and coaches to apply. This email is specifically intended for the high school league coaches and players. For collegiate league related inquiries and referrals please email Bill Erickson at mlb.uyacol...@gmail.com.

 

An outline of the program, coaches' applications, player applications, and academy membership forms are attached. Academy membership forms may be completed manually or online by visiting: http://mlburbanyouthacademy.mlblogs.com. On the right hand side, scroll down to "Registration Forms" and click "Become a Member." Complete the Application. Many potential questions may be answered within the attached outline and applications. Coaches, we ask that you please inform your players of this opportunity and forward them this email if possible. The high school program caters to all current high school ballplayers, including seniors graduating in 2013 looking for a place to play.

 

For those interested in signing up for the summer high school league, we would like to hear from you by May 17^th. Completed application forms can be turned in at the academy in person. Alternatively, you can email them to: Jacob...@mlb.com or mlb.uya...@gmail.com.  Some important dates and highlights include:

 

• May 19: pre-draft workout at the Academy
• May 22: players drafted to teams
• A 10-week schedule from June 1st to August 4th, with a banquet and all-star game August 10th
• 3 games per week, 1 fundamentals training day per week, and 1 educational day per week covering topics such as baseball film analysis, baseball fundamentals, mental toughness, College/SAT Prep, and career planning
• Access to the UYA for weight training, speed training, and conditioning
• Maximum playing time awarded to all players
• a $250 registration donation fee
